Design
The Satellite X205 is almost similar to the other Toshiba’s current line of laptops , with the same rounded edges, black accents, and silver interior. The machine is quite bulky, and weighs something around 9 pounds which is still less than the Dell XPS M1730, its closest competitor .Toshiba, as always, has included separate page up and page down keys , which are a delight to use along with a full numeric keypad. The 17 inch LCD screen offers a native resolution of 1680 * 1050. The screen has good color quality and correctness along with average viewing angles. The much awaited Blue Ray Drive is unexpectedly missing from the X205-SLi4 , as it has a HD-DVD. Ignoring the optical drive for a moment , the laptop consists of everything one can demand , including a HDMI output, Bluetooth, 802.11n Wi-Fi, and a basic external USB TV tuner.
Performance
Except the HD-Drive, you can’t really find fault in the rest of the X205’s specs. Intel’s T8100 Core 2 Duo 2.1GHz, 3GB of PC2-5300 DDR2 667MHz RAM, NVIDIA’s SLI Dual GeForce 8600M GT graphics with 512MB of dedicated memory and two 160GB 7,200rpm hard-drives make for a very respectable media and gaming machine, certainly when you couple it to a 17-inch WSXGA+ TruBrite display capable of 1680 x 1050 720p HD. X205 hasn’t tasted success as expected in powering the dual GPUs, offering only 69 minutes of battery life on the DVD battery drain test. Four Harman-Kardon speakers nestle around the keyboard, and there’s a Sub-woofer hidden below.
Overall
X205 can handle any type of program you wish to execute. Whether you are a gamer or a video editor this is one dream machine which you want to have for sure. Toshiba did not sacrifice on the security by including a finger card reader which makes sure your games and saved data remains intact.
Pros
+ Great design and multimedia features
+ Superior gaming performance
Cons
- Inclusion of HD-Drive instead of Blue Ray
