HP TO RELEASE 11.6" CULV AND 10.1" REVISED NETBOOK

HP has plans to release an 11.6 inch ultra-thin notebook and a revised 10.1 inch netbook by the end of this year.

The 11.6 inch notebook is being built by Quanta. It will use a CULV (The Consumer Ultra Low Voltage) based processor. No information regarding its specifications is available as of now. HP is also getting one of its 10.1 inch netbooks revised by Inventec.

The CULV based processors offer better performance than the Intel Atom processors common in netbooks. Like the Atom processors, they too are energy efficient but come at much higher prices. But prices are going to fall as competition is also heating up. There are reports that Asus and Acer are also working on developing products for the CULV segment. Both companies are known for their line of netbooks. But they have reportedly stopped releasing new netbooks until the release of Intel’s Pine Trail Platform expected in Q1 2010.
