Memory maker OCZ has confirmed that it would release the 1TB Colossus Solid State Drive (SSD) in mid-August. The drives are compact enough to fit standard 3.5 inch drive slots. They will be sold at a whooping $2200.
The Colossus SSD was unveiled at the Computex expo in Taipei last month. OCZ claims that the drive will offer read speeds of up to 250MB/s and write speeds of up to 220MB/s over the SATA2 standard.
At 14 ounces each, the drives aren’t very light. So, laptop users will have to wait for lighter versions.
OCZ also plans to release lower capacity models for budget-minded consumers. But a 120GB drive will still make you lighter by $300.
SSD drives deliver data faster and consume less power than traditional hard drives. The major problem with them is their price which is quite prohibitive.
