LENOVO IDEAPAD Y510 REVIEW

The Lenovo Ideapad Y510 can be taken as Thinkpad's cousin, which focuses on regular customers rather than business professionals. Lets check it out.

Design
Its design is unique, which is similar to other Thinkpads in the basic setup, but has some improvements like angled hinge design, a glossy display and LED lit shortcut keys. The laptop docks an all matte finish with a weave pattern engraved into the skin. Its more like a rough fabric rather than plastic. It has a 15.4” WXGA glossy screen which gives you good results in contrast and quality of the picture. A maximum of 1280x800 resolution is supported, and the viewing angles are good overall. The notebook suffers from a major flaw, which is the reflectivity of the screen, which is basically because of the glossy finish. It comes with 3 USB 2..0 ports, Firewire, S-Video, MIC/headphone, Ethernet, VGA and 6-in-1 card reader. The keyboard is also of a good quality, and u cant notice any flex over the surface. The keys are extremely quiet, and have a nice feel to them due to the additional cushion. The touchpad is also good with a nice amount of comfort and response.

Performance
The basic specification behind the machine is a Core-2-Duo T5450, 2GB RAM, 250Gb hard drive. It has enough power for multi-tasking and running the most recent business applications. But the integrated GPU makes gaming a pain in the a**, and only old games can be played on this machine. It achieved a 543 in 3DMark 06, which proves that it can't be used for gaming, and 3,749 in PCMark 05, which makes it suitable for productivity tasks.

Conclusion
The overall result of the Lenovo Ideapad Y510 is good enough, but it lacks in some places like GPU, and screen reflectivity. The battery life is decent at 3 hours average, though it should have been more for a desktop replacement notebook like this. This one can be summed up as a decent multimedia notebook at a good price.

Pros
+ Good features at that price
+ Business tasks are a breeze

Cons
- Poor reflectivity of the screen
- Bad GPU performance
