LENOVO IDEAPAD U1 TABLET WITH A DETACHABLE SCREEN

Tablet PCs usually have a display that you can swivel and fold down over the keyboard. But the Lenovo IdeaPad U1 tablet is different. It comes with an 11.6 inch detachable screen. Another interesting feature is that the tablet portion of U1 has a secondary processor in it.

The IdeaPad U1 can function as both a notebook and a tablet. In the laptop mode the device has a CULV processor and runs Windows 7. Other features include 4 GB of RAM, 2 USB ports, HDMI and VGA. Well, just detach the screen and you will have a fully functional touch-screen tablet PC powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon ARM-based processor, 512MB of RAM and a 16GB of flash memory. The tablet version runs Skylight Linux, a custom OS developed by Linux.

The IdeaPad U1 weighs around 3.8 pounds. The detachable tablet alone weighs 1.6 pounds. The battery, WiFi, 3G and Bluetooth are all tucked away in the tablet. In the laptop mode you will get around 6 hours of uptime and in the slate mode you will get more. Prices start at $999.

LENOVO IDEAPAD S12

With its 12 inch screen, the Lenovo IdeaPad S12 is one of the biggest netbooks available in the market. It comes with the Windows XP operating system.

System configurations for the laptop under review
Processor: Intel Atom N270 processor (1.60GHz)
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition
Graphics: Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics
Memory: 1 GB RAM
Display: 12.1 inch widescreen display (1280x800) with LED backlighting
Hard Disk Drive: 160GB 5400RPM hard drive (Hitachi HTS543216L9A)
The base configuration starts at $449.

Build and Design
S12 is very sturdy and has rounded edges and a slimmer chassis. The design is very accommodating - all parts fit together neatly.

At 1280x800, the display resolution is excellent for a netbook: most other netbooks have 1024x600 or less. Contrast and brightness are excellent. The only problem with the screen is that its glossy coating is prone to cause a lot of reflections. This can be very annoying when you use the machine in direct sunlight.
The speakers are audible, but to listen to music or movies you will need to buy a pair of headphones.

Keyboard and Touchpad
The keyboard is full size. If you are used to typing on a standard notebook keyboard, you will have absolutely no problem typing on this keyboard. The keyboard feels of high quality and the keys don’t wobble at all. The touchpad is both good and bad. Tracking is easy and it is reasonably accurate. The only problem is that it is slightly small.

Ports and Features
The port selection will meet almost all of your connectivity needs. There are 3 USB ports, one media card reader, ExpressCard/34 slot, headphone and microphone jacks, VGA and Ethernet.

Performance
You can perform all day to day activities without much difficulty; you can surf the net at reasonable speed; you can work with your documents; you can also listen to music or play video. Having said that, performing strenuous activities will easily overwhelm the Atom processor. So if you like to multi-task with several programs, you may be a bit disappointed with the performance. For everyday tasks, the performance is just fine.

Battery Life
At half brightness (5/10), the six-cell battery will give up to five hours. The S12 comes with a custom power configuration utility. Choose a power conscious setting, and you will get reasonable battery life.

Conclusion
The IdeaPad S12 is an excellent choice for those budget-minded consumers with modest needs. It has a pleasing design and comes with one of the best netbook keyboards.

Pros:
Pleasing design
Superb keyboard
Five hours of battery life

Cons:
Touchpad could have been larger

LENOVO IDEAPAD Y650 REVIEW

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 is a multimedia notebook with a 16 inch screen. It is thinner and lighter than most other 16 inch notebooks and has enough power and storage capacity to be your primary PC. Prices start at $1,299.

System configurations for the laptop under review

Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium (SP1, 64-bit)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo processor P8700 (2.53GHz, 3MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
Display: 16.0 "TFT Widescreen display with LED backlighting (1366x768)
Memory: 4GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz System Memory
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce G 105M graphics with 256MB discrete memory
HDD: 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive

Build and Design
The IdeaPad Y650 looks distinct from other IdeaPad notebooks. In build quality it is as sturdy as the business class ThinkPad notebooks. In looks it will easily beat Apple MacBook.

Display
The 16-inch display is simply great. Colors are bright and vivid and there is excellent contrast. Horizontal viewing angles are extremely good. So you can share a movie with a friend or two without any trouble.

Keyboard and Touchpad
Large notebooks will usually have larger keyboards. But this is not true of Y650. Lenovo has used a small keyboard on this machine. On the bright side, the smaller keyboard makes more room available for the massive touchpad. The keys are of reasonable size and the keyboard is quite comfortable to type on. The touch sensitive media bar which is located above the keyboard gives quick access to several programs.

The touchpad is Synaptics-based. It uses multi-touch controls. It has good sensitivity and accurately tracks finger movement.

Ports and Features
The port selection is basic. There are 2 USB ports, a 6-in-1 card reader, a smaller ExpressCard/34 slot, an eSATA port, headphone and microphone jacks and ethernet. There is no FireWire.

Performance
Y650 performs much better than other IdeaPad models. This machine will exceed the expectations of an average user. Boot times are fast, so is web browsing. You can easily perform your day-to-day tasks and enjoy high definition video. Gaming is where it falls behind other multimedia oriented notebooks. At a little over 3 hours, the battery life is average.

Conclusion
Overall the performance is good. The Y650 is thinner and lighter than any other 16-inch notebooks in the market. This is not a high-end gaming notebook. But if you are looking for an attractive entertainment notebook for your family, this is the one to buy.

Pros:
Good build quality
Great touchpad
Great sounding speakers

Cons:
Limited selection of ports
Small keyboard

LENOVA IDEAPAD S10 QUICK REVIEW

The combination of functionality and looks - Lenova Ideapad S10

The Netbook market is certainly getting competitive with every possible brand working to turn out the best possible combination of performance and presentation. One brand that worked its way into just such a scenario and has come close to the top is Lenova with its IdeaPad S10.

So, what makes this brand stand out? Let’s take a look at its specs in relation with competing units. Not much difference in the processor or RAM department and that’s no surprise although upgradability, (whether that’s the storage, RAM or the wireless card), is much easier with the S10 than most other models that can’t be dissembled by the average user.
The 160GB SATA HDD (5400rpm) is faster than the hard drives found on the Asus Eee PC 1000H and the MSI Wind PC. The Chassis has a smaller footprint and is also slimmer than both the aforementioned 10-inch Asus and MSI offerings. The exterior is shiny yet resistant to finger prints unlike the Dell Inspiron Mini 9. The touchpad though smaller in size, responds excellently and supports multi-touch gestures allowing you to zoom in and out by “pinch” and “spread” movements.
The LED backlit 1024x600 display comes with anti-glare making outdoor viewing easier. Sitting just above the keyboard is the noteworthy Onekey recovery backup software emergency restore program which can also be accessed from the Start menu.
The Wi-Fi card in the IdeaPad S10, enables faster transfer rates than all other netbooks in this category except the Acer Aspire One. The ExpressCard slot is a significant plus. The built-in Bluetooth which allows the usage of an external keyboard and mouse without sacrificing the usage of the two USB ports on offer is another standout feature.

Like all other netbooks, the IdeaPad S10 does have a few downsides. To begin with the appearance is slightly toy-like. The keyboard comes with unresponsive keys and while being bigger than those of the Acer Aspire One and the Dell Inspiron Mini 9, is smaller than those of the Asus Eee PC 1000H and the MSI Wind PC. The location of the speakers at the front edge means that the sound emitted is directed towards your waist instead of the ears though the volume was decent with minimal distortion. This model tends to heat up quickly even with normal usage though that’s true for most Intel Atom based versions. The short battery life offered (2 hours and 20 minutes) by the 3-cell battery is another con.

The Lenova IdeaPad S10 certainly seems to have a lot of positives going for it in terms of the storage space offered, the ExpressCard slot and the built-in Bluetooth. However, it continues to be plagued with the regular limitations of cramped keyboard, heating up and short battery life. While it makes for a good portable laptop considering the cost, it wouldn’t be hard to find a laptop with more features and similar performance, at the same price IF you don’t mind lugging around a larger piece.

Price: Aprrox. $400

LENOVO MIGHT HAVE 12-INCH IDEAPAD S20 IN THE WORKS

You're probably sick of all the netbook news you've been hearing lately. Yes so are we. But with the state of the world economy as it is, Apple and Voodoo are not making too many fans with people's pockets so we might as well brace ourselves because netbooks are gonna continue coming.

LENOVO IDEAPAD S10 NOW WITH 6-CELL HIGH CAPACITY BATTERY

Lenovo Ideapad S10There is no ifs and buts about Netbooks batteries, they aren’t usually impressive. Even if you gets an extended battery netbooks becomes un-portable due to its weight and ugly bulk. This is where Lenovo IdeaPad S10 stands apart; if you are in Germany then it’s a good news for you that IdeaPad S10 now comes with 6-Cell High Capacity Battery. You might say that 6-cell battery looks ugly and weird on the back of compute when plugged and do they offer double battery life? Here Lenovo claims to be selling “Large Capacity” version of S1 in US for about additional $50 on actual price. This version comes with 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive, both of which are double that you get on “General Computing” models.

As far as netbook is concern Lenovo has done a great job. This 10-inch model runs at 1024x600, probably sounds like a competition to Asus Eee PC 1000H (8.9-inch product with 1024x600) and also for MSI Wind. You get excellent Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom processor, with webcam, a 4-in-1-card reader and ExpressCard slot too. Some users might get disappointed by not locating SSD, however it can be upgraded. There is no exact clue on pricing nor when will it be available outside China.

LENOVO IDEAPAD U110 REVIEW – COMPLETE STYLE REDEFINED

The Lenovo IdeaPad U110 is the newest inclusion to the IdeaPad family and has freshly been gathering a lot of interests. Lenovo might be renowned for the ThinkPad line of laptops, but the majority of standard consumers don't find the customary style spec of the ThinkPad line to be very striking.

Design

The IdeaPad U110 is astonishingly solid in requisites of fabricate superiority. The aluminum etches flaunt cover and a complete magnesium aluminum framework that provide both potency and trivial. You can bear down on the unit as hard as you would like on the body of the laptop and it simply will not bend. Like the ThinkPad linage, the IdeaPad U110 is intended for (unintentional) cruelty and drops, and we're presuming that the U110 might be the most rugged notebook in the IdeaPad lineup.

Performance
Let's be reasonable, the IdeaPad U110 was not build to participate with your desktop encumbered with the power of a quad core processor. Thin travel laptops like the U110 utilize low voltage processors to marmalade power and shrink high temperature build-up. The IdeaPad U110 utilizes an Intel 1.60GHz Core 2 Duo L7500 processor that's quite proficient of successive office applications and performing any universal web linked errands, but will not dish up fighting fit for 3D graphics applications or any profound duty interpretation tasks.

Similarly, the Intel X3100 incorporated graphics will permit you to engage in recreation for a little light games, perhaps even Half Life 2 on low setting, but in all-purpose you'll fancy to fasten to e-mail, web browsing, Office and photo editing errands. That's sufficient for the majority of standard customers ... predominantly if you previously have a prevailing desktop.

The hard disk storage space could have supplemented concert if it was a 5400rpm or higher rpm rated drive. Better still; a wonderful fast SSD would have prearranged the U110 a little supplementary "snappiness." Regrettably, the slow 4200rpm hard drive on the U110 only prepared the system that much slower at times of daily use.
The 11.1" WXGA (1366 x 768) display on the U110 is pleasant and vivid, but suffers from a noteworthy degree of "graininess."

The keyboard fitted on the IdeaPad U110 has nil flex and brilliant key travel with hushed presses. Lenovo has additional a lustrous "piano paint" finish to the keys so that they don't wear off and obtain all gleaming over time. Lenovo provisions both the regular 4-cell battery power pack as well as the 7-cell extended life battery for the U110. The 4 – cell promises 2 hours and the 7-cells packs punch for 6 hours usage.

Overall
On the whole the notebook is so loaded with the features that are so specific of the Lenovo brand. The brand image is clearly carried forward with loads of personal interest and care. U110 is an overall package of pride & integrity.

Pros
+ Built quality is really good.
+ Battery choices are well sorted.
+ Well laid out keyboard.

Cons
- Graphics could have been better.
- SSD could have been a good choice.

LENOVO IDEAPAD Y510 LAPTOP REVIEW

Consumer target is the main feature of many notebooks today in the market. ThinkPad revolution would have clearly explained the consumer target and the competitions among the companies to make their laptops more competent. Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 falls under this category quickly, maintaining a rigid notepad at affordable quality and prices for students and people in houses. The reason why we tell that it is affordable is because of the quality that follows the attractive price package that it comes with. IdeaPads from Lenovo has seen many varieties, but this model stands out for some reasons. Go on to know about it.

Design
Yes, the important part of discussion particularly to this model. The Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 Laptop has broken the rules of other IdeaPads and has maintained a sleek design in terms of customer orientation. There are no extra efforts to make the laptop shine, but the design itself speaks with the outer lid, quality, and orange LED power lights wherever needed etc. the looks have changed and they look decent. But the solid appearance of the laptop has not changed. It remains like its ancestors. But not everything is fine in design. There are certain flaws like the wide screen display with gaudy effects, Lack of a port for external display connection etc.

Performance
The laptop cannot do injustice to the consumers of colleges, homes etc. The performance is certainly better than many IdeaPads that we have been seeing for the past some months. With the 1.66GHz Core 2 Duo T5450 processor and the memory of 2GB DDR2, the laptop works quite efficiently. The storage capacity is taken care by the 250GB hard drive and the gaudy display is from a 15.4-inch LCD. The Integrated Intel GMA X3100 has done justice to the graphics. Entire performance is better with the Windows Vista Home Premium operating system. But battery life is little disturbing.

Pros and Cons
Affordability, style looks and sleek design will form the positive parts of the model whereas battery life, reflective screen will form the drawbacks.
