COLORFUL S101 NEWYORK: ANOTHER NETBOOK FROM CHINA

The Colorful S101 NewYork is a netbook from a Chinese PC maker. Contrary to what the name may indicate the device has no association with New York.

The netbook doesn’t have any particularly impressive specifications. It runs on a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor with 160GB hard drive and up to 2GB of RAM.
Notable features of the device include an accelerometer and software that will rotate the display when you hold the netbook on its side. The machine isn’t very slim or light, but it is still portable. The 10 inch display features 600x1024 pixels. The S101 is not a dedicated eBook reader like Amazon Kindle or Sony Reader, but it can still be used for viewing websites.

The accelerometer provides some sort of shock protection for the hard drive. It will shut down the hard drive temporarily in the event of its getting dropped off a desk.

ANOTHER COMPETITOR IN NETBOOK WORLD - SHARP

Sharp has declared the launch of their Mebius netbooks by the next week in Japan. Sharp is set to start some teaser shots of this very first netbook. Though we are not able to get a view of this new venture from Sharp but it is promised to be a desired one from the brand, especially after the launch of media centre NEC which didn’t come out to be good.

So here is a new competitor for the existing giants of the market of Netbooks. Sharp has proved itself several times with different electronic products, both in style and innovation. Sharp has also started to send out invitation to different Japanese tech journos about this unveiling of new Sharp Mebius netbooks. Sharp is set to start their marketing and promos will be coming up by next week. This new essence of Sharp has already set fire among the prevailing dealers of this field.

Nothing as such has been revealed about the Mebius Netbooks, the logo has been revealed with embossed lid aside and is seemed to be a thick one with a pink bubble at the side saying “You will change - The Mebius will change”.

ASUS UNVEILS ANOTHER LETHAL WEAPON: ASUS U6V

First came the first wave of light computers: the notebooks (which have been around since the 1980s). Then came a series of mini-notebooks that were designed for those who thought that size was an impediment to much needed mobility- the netbooks. And finally, we have another fast-growing niche, this time, for those who think that size doesn’t necessarily have to be bad, as long as it’s no more than two inches thick.

The ultraportable niche in the market is being filled continually with battling contenders for ultraportable notebook supremacy- and the company responsible for the ASUS eee pc (the 2 gigabyte model) is now back with a vengeance- with the ASUS U6V ultraportable.
The dimensions

Unlike other ultraportables, the ASUS U6V is packed with immense processor power with a 2.26 gigahertz Core 2 Duo, which promises a new world of virtual computing and added data safety features for all. This power-packed ultraportable has 4 gigabytes of memory (perfect for even non-Windows users) and an nVidia Geforce i.c. graphics chip.

Fascinatingly, the ASUS U6V can also be used for intense gaming (for games like Doom 3 and Prince of Persia, both virtual memory intensive games). For an ultraportable, the very fact that you can play Doom 3 means you have a good thing coming on your hand.

When compared to other performers in the ultraportable field (excluding the Mac Air), the U6V puts up a fairly decent fight, and even exceeds the Lenovo counterpart by a few notches. This performance, coupled with its lightweight dimensions, makes it perfect for people who will not be that dependent on extreme machine performance.

As for the storage space, you will go “Wow!” with the 320 gigabytes of storage space made available by the ASUS U6V; literally, this kind of space translates to more than 300 movies or 3,000 mp3s. Perfect for those who like to keep their multimedia array close by, wherever they might go.

Of ports and touchpads

What are ports for? Because of the size, a decent sound system is not included in this ultraportable; so make sure that you have a decent speaker system of your own, or you have a particularly crisp set of headphones so that you can really enjoy this ultraportable.

As for the display, you wouldn’t have to worry if you have to work outdoors most of the time. The resolution and the brightness levels can be adjusted accordingly to make viewing a pleasure and not a pain wherever you might be working at the moment.

You might be thinking “well, the touchpad is sure to be grand”. Surprisingly, no. The touchpad is a tad too small, and because of this you might have some problems navigating efficiently through the wide screen. But nonetheless, with a bit of practice, you will surely overcome this nuisance.

Three universal serial buses (mouse, printer and what not) are included, and a quite rare VGA port for projectors and other devices (hurray!). The primary battery last for about 3 hours; which is supported by another battery pack (free, from ASUS) which makes this ultraportable that much more attractive to buy.
