HOW TO INSTALL WINDOWS 7 ON A NETBOOK WITHOUT AN OPTICAL DRIVE

In a bid to make netbooks slimmer and lighter PC makers are doing away with the optical drive. While not having an optical drive doesn’t really affect the functionality of a mobile professional, it does become a problem when you have to install some software only available in a CD. For instance, consider this situation: you want to install Windows 7 on your netbook and you don’t have an optical drive. What will you do? Well, Microsoft is well aware of your predicament and has provided a solution.

Here are the steps you need to take.

1. Purchase Windows 7 from the online store (saves to an ISO file)
2. Purchase a USB flash drive.
3. Create a bootable USB flash drive using the Windows 7 USB / DVD Download Tool
4. Restart your computer
5. Go to your netbook BIOS and make the USB flash drive the first bootable device
6. Save the BIOS settings and reboot the PC with the USB flash drive slotted in.
7. Install Windows 7
Congrats, now you have got the brand new OS on your system.

MACBOOK WITHOUT DVD DRIVES ?

It will come as a shock to many notebook users that the new MacBook launched by Apple will not feature any optical drives. The reason for this is the design of this notebook. The MacBook is ultra thin because of which the DVD drive had to be removed. Also, Apple has tried to increase the battery life of these notebooks which is boosted by the removal of these bulky optical drives. The removal of moving parts also makes the MacBook more durable. However, for those who are pretty much used to DVD drives in notebooks for burning and installation uses, external DVD drives are still in use.
