TOSHIBA PORTEGE R500-S5002 REVIEW

Introduction
Toshiba’s Portege R500-S5002is one of today’s most ultraportable laptop. The screen is 12-inches but it is still lighter than Sony’s 11-inch VAIO TZ150. This is a quite expensive ultraportable laptop, you will be able to find many cheaper alternatives but not with high-end facilities like this.

Design
The R500 features a stylish design and with a good keyboard and responsive touchpad the laptop is close to be perfect. Even though the laptop is so small its still very comfortable to work on it. The screen features great brightness and contrast, I also have no problems watching the screen from different angels. The native resolution of the screen is 1280 x 800 this is perfect for a laptop at this size. The R500 also has a matte screen not a glossy one like we usually see these days. That is also a big plus in my book. The laptop also features many connection facilities like 3 USB 2.0, mini-FireWire, SD card reader, PC Card slot, modem, Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth. This is quite okay for such a small machine.

Performance
The laptop features a Core 2 Duo processor from Intel and 2GB memory. The laptop’s performance is average. If you are running many applications ate the same time it tends to slow down and lag from time to time. This was with Windows Vista, but I bet it would run a lot better in XP. You won’t be able to do much gaming on this laptop because the Intel GMA965 is way too weak for that. However this laptop is not meant for games anyway.

Conclusion
This is a small ultraportable lightweight laptop with good facilities. It is simply perfect for a business man or a student with the matte screen and cool design. The battery life is also great it and beat the Vaio TZ with 20 minutes when testing the battery eater program. So far this is one of the best ultraportable machines out there.

Pros
+ Good design
+ Very small
+ Very light

Cons
- Poor graphic performance
- Slow under Vista

MOST AWAITED – TOSHIBA PORTEGE R500

Perhaps the most awaited laptop we have been looking forward this year is certainly Toshiba Portege R500, which is an ultra portable system. This one is incredibly slim and lightweight that manages to grasp a 12-inch wide screen display in a pack yet lighter than Sony VAIO TZ150. Although one may come across less costly ultra portable, both Sony VAIO TZ150 and R500 are known as the premium products with high-end configuration options comprising solid state hard drives. With its ultrathin LED backlit screen display, R500 is remarkably small, particularly for its feature of optical drive.

Additional feature comprise a decent sized keyboard, which is really comfy when typing. One could really get impressed with the resolution of 1,200x800, which is apt for any laptop size. Toshiba Portege R500 could be obtained in four different configurations that is fixed in models. Even the battery life is especially admiring, Portege R500’s battery last for about 4 hours tested on DVD battery drain. Most of the other company may not offer you a standard warranty of three years, by Toshiba Portege R500 does. Conversely, Toshiba’s much-awaited Portege R500 is perhaps the best ultraportable laptop accessible today, though the mobile broadband evidently is not available, but yet manage to be the best.
