WHICH VERSION OF WINDOWS 7 SHOULD YOU PICK?

windows 7 As we all know, Windows 7 has been released to the market place and it will be fun getting to know a new operating system. The newest version of Windows is a much improved version of the Windows operating system and comes with a lot of high praise. This might be because of the very low user ratings that Windows Vista received during its initial release and run. I have tried Windows 7 and I will say that it is a much better user experience than the previous Windows operating systems. The one thing that I am not a fan of, in this latest OS release, is the fact that it comes with so many versions of the operating system. There is the home basic version, the home premium version, the starter version, the professional version, the ultimate version, and the enterprise version. And this is without including the different versions that come in the x86 or the x64 flavor. This can confusing to the average person who is not too familiar with such a protocol so we will walk you through which versions the average person should pick.

We will start with the versions that the average person will not be interested in. This will help narrow down your choices while giving you an ideal of what versions are out there in case your need to upgrade or maybe even downgrade. Most people are not going to be satisfied with the starter version of Windows 7. This is meant for the new netbooks that you may have seen advertised on TV. This is a strip down version of windows 7 and will not suit most of your needs. On the opposite end of the spectrum you have the Windows 7 enterprise version. This is meant for business and IT users and the average user will not get much use out of it. I would suggest staying away from this as well. Now lets go to the versions that you may want to choose from.

On the first level you have windows home basic and premium versions. When it comes to Windows Basic, most users in what is considered a first world country, will not have to worry about. Windows Home Basic is meant to be used by users in a third world or emerging market country. So for most people Windows Home premium would be considered the starter pack. If you are a user who does not do heavy computing and most of your time on the computer contains the activities of surfing the Internet and watching movies, then this is the edition for you. It's price tag makes it suitable for people who are far from heavy computer users.

The next level of Windows 7 is the Windows 7 professional versions. Most people who make a living using their computer rather heavily will want to invest in this version. People who also use their computer for gaming and other recreational activities will want to chose this version as well. This version comes with easy back up compatibility as well as easier features that will allow you to connect with your work network. The price point begins at $200, so it is a little more pricey than the Home version. If you are a heavy computer user then it is worth it.

Along the same level of Windows 7 professional is the other version, Windows Ultimate. This has similar features to Windows professional except it cost $30 more and it comes with BitLocker capability. BitLocker is the security feature that was introduced in Windows Vista that allows you to encrypt your hard drive. Also Windows 7 Ultimate will allow you to use any language that you choose to work in and not just with the default language that you picked while doing the install. If you are a person that works and travels with your computer a lot, then this is the version that I would recommend. If you were to lose your laptop then your work secrets would still be safe.

We have given you the different variations of the new Windows 7 and told you what would be best for the average type of user. Hopefully this will help you when you have to make the decision on what version you would like.

MOBLIN LINUX 2.1 BETA VERSION OUT FOR TESTING

Netbook users can now download and test a new beta version of Moblin Linux. The Moblin 2.1 as it is dubbed has enhanced features including the following:

It supports 3G data connections
Allows Bluetooth device management
Has updated browser with plug-in support
Supports more connectivity options including Ethernet, WiMax, WiFi and 3G
Has integrated application installer for Moblin Garage

The new version also supports more screen resolutions. This feature will come handy if you want to install the Moblin OS on a nettop or all-in-one PC. These features, however, are still not fully functional. For example, the only 3G modem that is supported by the OS so far is the Ericsson MBM, but support for additional models is expected as it moves out of beta.

The best thing about Moblin Linux is that it is not a piece of standalone software. The folks who work on the project have made it available to other developers working on independent Linux distributions such as Ubuntu and Linpus making it possible for them to use the Moblin user interface and netbook-oriented optimizations.

INTEL RELEASES ALPHA VERSION OF MOBLIN OS

Nearly a year ago we got wind of Intel's new Moblin OS that is supposed to be bundled with its Atom and Core Duo 2 processors. Well the custom Linux build that is based of Fedora is available albeit the Alpha version and can be loaded onto your Acer Aspire One, Dell Mini or Eee PC. That is if you're interested in living without WiFi.

So far things look pretty good but we're ever so skeptical to see how the mass public will take this as Linux netbooks have a 60% higher return rate than their Window's XP counterparts.

In any case, if you're the experimental mind you can go and get your copy and demo it. Just remember that you'll be out of wireless streaming of YouTube as long as Moblin is installed.

You can always wait for the final version that is yet to be announced though.

MSI TURBOBOOK GX600 REVIEW - THE NEW VERSION IS OUT

The MSI Turbobook GX600 has a in built turbo button that the producer says can spontaneously boost its performance by as much as 20 per cent, and cut boot times by approximately 50 per cent. But does it really work? Are there any drawbacks? Let’s peep in to reveal the secrets of the revamped GX600.

Design
The Turbobook GX600 looks drooling with the hood closed. The lustrous black finish gives it a modern neat looks that is in line with what the rest of the competitors seem to be doing at the current time. Unexpectedly, it all goes to pot when you open the hood. The turbo button, dressed in the dodgy silver paneling and the off switch located at the top right of the notebook. Software is comparatively scarce, but you are provided with a copy of Windows Vista Home Premium edition.

Performance
With a tag like 'MSI Turbobook GX600', you'd look out for this notebook to be drastically quick. It does by no means can be compared to the fastest we've seen, especially when it comes to the gamer attitude, but it's fast enough to keep in line with the quickest Centrino notebooks on the market.

Its 3D gaming agility isn't as qualitative, though. It just scampered very little in 3DMark testing circuits, and striking the turbo button doesn’t make much difference with turbo enabled, it scores less impressive scores too. For a comparison, the current breeds of high-end gaming notebooks will score at around twice as much as the GX600.

The keyboard and mouse are designed to be a useful performer, but actually they're totally tricky to get to grips with. MSI also contains a 1.3-megapixel webcam just above the display, and an optional free view TV tuner card, sad to mention our review sample didn't contain the latter. Battery sprint life on the Turbobook GX600 isn't specifically inspiring, but then we never projected it to be. The sprinting pace just manages 1 hour 5 minutes in our intensive Battery Eater test.

Conclusion
The Turbobook GX600 is a jumbled bag. It's encouraging for anyone who does CPU-intensive work, as it’s over clocking feature works amazingly and vastly accelerates core performance. The GX 600 is a new kid with the old tag line.

Pros
+ Just as the same old GX-600.
+ 3MB Ram is good addition

Cons
- Turbo switch doesn’t boost much
- Battery life pathetic
- Gaming attitude is poor.

ASUS G2SG REVIEW - TOTAL GAMING VERSION OF G2K

The G2SG the gamer boy from the house of ASUS, feature the same look a-likes to that of the ASUS G2K. But with the promises that this notebook is totally different, it takes some time for one to accept that comment. Read on to reveal the reason why this notebook is different from G2K.

Design
The case of the Asus G2SG habitually stands out because of its unique intend that might not suit the likes of everyone’s taste. Asus captivated this by joining arms with a variety of diverse materials with stupendous color design. Almost the entire bits and pieces that can be found in other variants can be spotted here as well: synthetic in matt finish, plastic in shiny finish, plastic in carbon and aluminum look, even include is the actual metal below the keyboard, and the pierced iron sheet located on either sides of the keyboard.

Performance
The Asus G2 type G2SG has a present Penryn processor created by Intel, an influential T9300 chip with a clocking cycle rate of 2.5GHz and 6MB L2 memory cache. This provides the G2 the pleasantries of the new-fangled Penryn power chips, which can offer extensively better performance in certain relevance’s when compared with other old configured processors sprinting at the identical clock rate.

The G2SG hosts a novel graphics chip, the Geforce 8700M GT with an in build memory boost of 512MB GDDR3 video memory. The 8700M GT is rambling the 8800 GTX and a choice of SLI amalgamations, but still caters to performance class I when compared to the similar mobile graphics cards, which proves good performance for this graphics card.
As stated before, some SLI groupings (8600M GT and 8700M GT), as well as the presently most powerful laptop graphics card, loaded with the 8800M GTX, are still way ahead.

As a mobile gaming console the Asus G2SG renders an assortment of high value border alternatives. The G2SG, similar to model G2K, has Fire wire, VGA and S-video output, a digital High definition media interface port, along with a total of 5 USB 2.0 ports. The G2Sg houses a 17inch Display that of the breed of the WXGA category, which propels nicely in combination with the graphics accelerators. The resolutions that are achieved by this potential performer are on the likes of 1400 X 900.

The colored A-W-S-D keys on the keyboard, which are utilized to move characters in games from end to end in virtual worlds, leave no distrust that the Asus G2SG is certainly a gaming laptop. An addition number to assist 2 player options would have been highly encouraged. The Asus G2SG is powered with a 4800mAh battery with a watt rating of 71Wh. The upper limit of battery life examination with the Battery Eater readers resulted in a max of 130 minutes sprint time.

Overall
The Asus G2, in the version that is newly gambled as G2SG, has by and large the same pros and cons as its predecessor variants, but enhanced appreciably as regards to the accessories and recital. But chiefly the widespread accessories makes the G2 still a gorgeous gaming laptop.

Pros
+ Good gaming potency
+ High end graphics accelerator results in HD clarity
+ Good connectivity options

Cons
- Highly pricey

Rumors of EEE PC getting upgraded to the touch screen feature are as old as the EEE PC itself. HP PAVILION DV2800T REVIEW - ARTIST VERSION OF DV2700

The HP Pavilion dv2800t Artist peculiar Edition series laptop is a notebook "designed by young people and selected by young people" for its distinctive style. This notebook has all the creature comforts as compared to the standard dv2700t, with the only addition to it being a custom paint job. Is this the kind of notebook that will make you one among Star-Bucks?

Design
The design on the Artist Edition dv2800t is very exceptional, and unlike anything we have been exposed to before. It starts with custom graphics embedded into the imprint finish, then it has matching synthetic trim around the laptop that gels in with the design, and even stretches as far as a custom painted keyboard and touchpad that also syncs with the design. All of these modifications give you a laptop that has the feel of a mass-produced notebook with a very own custom design that few notebooks could hoard up against.

Performance
The dv2800t comes with a Windows Vista Home Premium and a heart of Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7500 and a memory of 2GB DDR2 System Memory. The 14.1" WXGA glossy display isn't the best on offer, but it does perform nice enough for a laptop of this size and price. Colors and brightness were decent enough for mild gaming or movie watching.

The keyboard on this HP is very comfortable to use, with nominal flex and very receptive keys. Key spacing and key size is outstanding for a 14" laptop, leaving little to be desired when typing for extended stretch of time. Gelling along with the custom design, the keys on this Artist Edition are coated dark brown to match the ritual design of the rest of the laptop.

The touchpad keys provide good feedback, above all give you a nice throw that you don't get to find in several other touchpad buttons. Instead of giving you a trivial "click" they move down 3-4mm with a nice firm "thuk." It also includes the touch-sensitive media buttons universal to HP Pavilion laptops positioned above the keyboard.

The Altec Lansing speakers located at the top of the dv2800t performs above average for a laptop speaker, and an ideal match for watching movies or listening to music when on the move. High and midrange audio is good, but low-end bass is lacking.

Thermal performance of this HP is very good, but a bit on the warmer side. When gaming or doing other kinds of demanding activities, I would prefer laptops that keep most of the heat towards the rear and bottom of the notebook. This notebook does the same.

Overall
The HP Pavilion dv2800t Artist Edition laptop offers a very exclusive design paired with first-rate system performance. While the design might not be liked by everyone, you have to accept that the finished material is probably one of the best tradition products on the market right now.

Pros
+ Great custom design artwork that will last long without wearing off
+ Good sturdy build quality
+ Quiet coolers, even when gaming

Cons
- Left side of palm rest warms out because of the hard drive below it
- Painted keyboard gives a really slippery feel
