ALIENWARE AREA-51 M17X REVIEW

ALIENWARE AREA-51 M17X

Alien is out with the tag line of M17X from Alienware

The m17x is Alienware's top-end gaming laptop. Prominent features of this all-black monster comprise an Intel Core 2 Extreme processor, twin NVidia Geforce 9800M-GT graphics accelerator cards, and a 500GB RAID 0 array.

Design
This all-black monster is one of the principal laptops I have experienced. It is 2.1 inches thick and guidelines the scales at 11 pounds. The corporeal design of the m17x is conventional – there are no conjure curves or other design constituents. It has a box-like intend with filleted edges. The rubberized matte black come to an end of the m17x loans it a top-end feel and look. The only lustrous finish to be set up on the m17x is on the borders of the LCD.

Performance
The m17x comes customary with the only display obtainable, a 17-inch lustrous widescreen with a WUXGA declaration (1920x1200 pixels). The m17x has 2 stereo speakers and a 2-inch subwoofer. The sound excellence is to some extent above average for a laptop, and they get convincingly deafening the subwoofer adds some required low-end. The cooling system is significant on any laptop, but on a laptop packed with high-powered constituents like the m17x, it is assignment critical. Providentially the m17x’s system is up to the task. Vista Home Premium and eventual (32-bit) are the 2 accessible operating systems. I did not have any concerns with Vista Home Premium on our test unit; all of the abounding software including the Alienware Command Center labored without questions. I had no difficulties entering/resuming from standby, and hibernation enforced fine as well. The m17x has a 12-cell, 6600mAh battery power pack. With the display dimmed down in power-save mode and wireless off, I calculated 66 minutes of battery life.

17-inch WUXGA (1920x1200) lustrous display Intel Core 2 Extreme X9000 (2.8GHz/ 4MB L2/ 800MHz FSB) processor Dual NVidia Geforce 9800M-GT 512MB graphics accelerator cards in SLI 4GB DDR2-667 RAM 500GB RAID 0 (2x 250GB 7200RPM Samsung) hard drive

Overall
The Alienware Area-51 m17x is an extraordinary gaming laptop and a clear step ahead for Alienware in terms of intend and presentation. It is crammed to the gills with top-shelf paraphernalia, most remarkably a pair of NVidia 9800M-GT video cards. This is one of not even a handful of engines that can contentedly max out Crysis.

Pros
+ Extraordinary gaming presentation
+ Alien FX LED lighting system
+ Rock-hard build quality
+ Unbelievable display quality
+ High-quality keyboard & touchpad

Cons
- Very pricey
- Earsplitting fans
- Keyboard warm up

Alienware tending to make some interesting development by its new Area-51 m15x gaming notebook, however they are very disappointed knowing that it is no more offered with sidelights of monitor. You must be aware of its six distinct lighting zones, but it is no longer a part of Area-51 m15x. However, Alienware convince its customers by saying - "The lighting is not currently working on the systems that are being sent out, but an update will be available in a couple of weeks either for download from our site or sent directly to the customer. So even if you do get a system without active lighting, a fix should be along soon after."

ALIENWARE AREA-51 M5790 REVIEW

Desktop Replacement Notebook from Alienware, this one is an economical option for a Gaming notebook, and is at an initial price of $1,200.

Design
The notebook has been given a deep glossy look, and a shiny silvery finish. There is the Alienware logo along with the alien head on the top, which glows blue when the laptop is on. They keyboard is a nice full size, a must for every gamer out there. There are additional keys above the keyboard which have various functions like the Power ON. The screen is a WUXGA, 17” and it offers great color reproduction and quality. Presenting a vibrant and clean feel, it can support a maximum resolution of 1920x1200. The screen has a great viewing angle and absolutely no problem was faced while viewing it from different locations. The adapter port and one USB port reside on the left and Firewire , 3 USB and Ethernet port on right. A DVI port has also been provided at the back of the laptop, which has an advantage over the traditional VGA.

Performance
The laptop has an Intel Core-2-Duo T5600 processor, 1GB RAM and 256MB ATI Radeon Mobile x1800. The laptop performs well and you can carry out a fair amount of tasks simultaneously, without any lag or slowdown. It scored a 4,411 in PCMark 05 and 2,625 in 3DMark 06, which is an average score for a gaming notebook. The notebook could play latest games at medium settings easily, but faltered at higher settings. The sound system of the notebook deserves a special mention, because the speakers of very good quality and it also includes a sub-woofer at the bottom as well. The sound-card was a bit of a setback though, and I had a feeling, that the speakers could perform better had the card been better. The battery is a plain-jane, with lasting around 1 hr and 30 mins.

Conclusion
The performance is good but there is definite scope for improving it. The price is a definite plus for a notebook as powerful as this, and the features and configuration is justified by the price tag.

Pros
+ Good design
+ Good performance-price ratio
+ Superb screen viewing angle

Cons
- Poor battery life
- Sound card limits the speaker power.

ALIENWARE AREA-51 M9750 GAMING LAPTOP REVIEW

Design
This laptop is available in black and white and looks very cool from a gamer point of view. The laptop weights 9.5 pounds, that’s not so bad for a big and powerful laptop like this. The 17-inch 1920 x 1200 pixel widescreen is made with very good quality and offers a supreme gaming experience, however the screen is very glossy so make sure you do all the gaming in the dark so you won’t only see your own refection.

Alienware Aera-51 m9750 features a Blu-ray optical drive which also makes this a good multimedia laptop. The display supports full 1080p HD resolution and works perfect for movies. The viewing angles works also very nice, so you can enjoy a movie with your friends. The 2.1 audio system on the laptop works okay but I recommend that you get a better system if you watch a lot of movies. You will also get a TV tuner which u can use with the media center and a DVI-D output so you can watch them on a larger screen.

Performance
The Alienware Area-51 M9750 can be customized in many ways the one we tested here comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 processor and two nVidia Geforce Go 7950 GTX with 512 RAM. You can also get the more powerful Geforce 8700GT in SLI mode. However this is really a future gaming laptop with an insane power and performance. We did some testing and on PCMark05 we got a core of 5563 points while on 3DMark03 we got a score of 34585 points (the best I ever seen on a laptop).
When we tested F.E.A.R we had an average of 140 FPS with the next best resolution. This is even better then many modern gaming desktops.

Conclusion
This is the perfect gaming laptop with an insane performance. The laptop also works nice for multimedia and video work. A must buy if you are looking for a new gaming laptop.

Pros
+ Great performance
+ Great display
+ Awesome gaming laptop

Cons
- No HDMI output
