SONY HAS ONLY ONE CLOCK SPEED OPTION FOR US BOUND P SERIES

We're not sure what is the problem with Sony or any other Japanese maker releasing the cool upgrade options for the US. But apparently Sony does not have any plans to send us the 1.8GHz model we had heard about.

So far the only option we have for the US is the 1.3GHz model. But our Japanese neighbors get the $174 1.86GHz Atom Z540 option. A little pricey but a good option nonetheless seeing that we're stuck with Window's Vista Home Premium for now. Window's 7 couldn't come soon enough.

Anyways as we have said two times before, you're welcome to count the pennies in your piggy bank and head over to SonyStyle.com and pre-order your model. You will have to place down a minimum of $899 for one of these though.

MSI WIND SIMILAR OPTION IS AKOYA MINI

Americans are unwearyingly in the offing until July 7 to get their hands on an MSI Wind. But it’s not the same with the Germans. German consumer electronics producer Medion is serving its Akoya Mini E1210, a re-branded and re-colored MSI Wind, to Deutschland for a price tag of €399. Oh, and did we talk about those Germans get it this week? The appliance sporting almost indistinguishable specs to the Wind will be on retailing at German ALDI from this Wednesday, July 3. While it may lack the Bluetooth connectivity choice found in the Wind, it is bundled with Corel’s Word Perfect. I have dragged out to Medion to check if the Akoya Mini will make a stateside manifestation, but it seems like U.S. patriots will be in the offing for the Wind over the Independence Day weekend.

DELL VOSTRO 1310 REVIEW - NEW BUDGET NOTEBOOK OPTION

When Dell instigated their new-fangled Vostro line of notebooks last year, the Vostros where right away praised for meeting the requirements of small businesses and budget concerned consumers alike. The Vostro 1310 is the latest and smallest inclusion to the Vostro family of laptops.

Design
Dell sketched out some much required awareness in 2007 with the launching of the sleek, high concert XPS M1330 and XPS M1530 laptops. While these more posh laptops in the Dell production line were eulogized for their looks and low weight, the Dell Insipron and Vostro laptops were censured for being bulky and unattractive notebooks. Dell snooped strictly to this denigration when they designed the all new Vostro 1310. The Vostro 1310 is in fact approximately 20% slighter and lighter than the Vostro 1400. Regrettably, the lighter weight and thinner profile come at some cost. Specifically, the plastics utilized in the chassis experience thin and in some locations, like the space above the keyboard and on the palm rests, there is a noteworthy degree of bend.

Performance
The Dell Vostro 1310 is obtainable with a range of Intel processors on offer (from the 1.86GHz Celeron M M540 up to the T9500 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo). There are 2, 13.3" display offerings, a 1280x800 WXGA with lusterless anti-glare coating and 1280x800 WXGA "True-Life" polished screen. The laptop can take up to 4GB of RAM and Dell provides 32-bit versions of either Microsoft Windows Vista Business or Windows XP Professional. The system is tagged to a starting price of $749 with incorporated Intel X3100 graphics at the time of this inscription, but is also obtainable with NVidia 8400M GS devoted graphics card. The keyboard present in the Vostro 1310 is quite pleasant with negligible bend near the center of the keyboard. The touchpad exterior utilizes the similar matte texture with just a little bit hint of metal flake that is utilized on the palm rest exterior.

I was pleasingly surprised to find 4 USB ports given on the 1310. It was a bit of a let down by the reality that the much bigger XPS M1530 only contains 3 USB ports. The fact is that the 1310 wraps 4 USB ports into a sensibly thin and light 13.3" laptop is worth praise. The new Vostro does an extraordinary job observing the heat to keep it under control.

The 6-cell 58WHr rated Li-Ion battery power pack leaves outstanding battery life for the 1310. With Vista's power management operating in the "high performance" mode, and the screen brightness levels set to higher values and wireless connectivity in ON mode, the 6-cell battery power pack conveyed 3 hours and 18 minutes of battery sprinting life.

Overall
Overall, the Dell Vostro 1310 is a remarkable budget laptop with cleaner looks and sturdy performance. Whether you want a simple business laptop or a budget portable notebook with unpretentious gaming capabilities, the Vostro 1310 makes an admirable choice.

Pros
+ Thinner and lighter than the previous VOSTRO
+ Sensible battery life
+ Nice display
+ Windows XP option

Cons
- Glossy LCD lid does not hide fingerprints
- No HDMI port
- A bit pricey

It just weighs up at 1.2kg with power pack and features dimension of the order - 296mm (W) x 209mm (D) x 14-30mm (H). We used the remark "surprising" to illustrate the hardware specs because this baby is muscled by an Intel processor, which was purposely made for the UMPC platform. Remember the A110? ACER TRAVELMATE 5720 REVIEW – ACERS CHEAP OPTION ON OFFER

Swathed in Acer's new magnesium alloy "Profile" chassis, the TravelMate 5720 can be furnished with a concrete selection of Intel Centrino Duo mobile processors and enough expediency to make your mobile computing a little more enjoyable. In this budget laptop a worthwhile procure compared to low-priced offerings from HP and Dell?

Design
The TravelMate 5720, with its lustrous black and grey trade design on the outside, is much nicer than I expected. It practically screams no-nonsense without appearing like your grandfather's hardware. Inside, there is an interesting metallic ribbon around the touch-pad and a shiny metallic strip which houses your emblematic LED indicator lights. The 5720 also comes with an impressive feature called DASP technology (Disk Anti-Shock Protection) which is a rubber damper under the hard disk.

Performance

For a 2.0GHz contemporary processor and a 5400 rpm hard drive I really expected better recital from the Acer. However, again, there is something with Acer build quality which doesn't always interpret into high quality. It takes about 2 minutes to finish starting up with these processes running: Norton Anti-virus, Photoshop Elements 3.0 Open Office, Quick starter, a calendar widget and the Acer business widget. When compacting with tasks, it is normally snappy.

Acer will have notebooks that can contend with the big boys in screens, but for now, there is nothing we can do but groan and squint a bit. The screen is an LCD, and a faded one. It's even more taciturn than the Aspire LCD, which I didn't think would be possible.

In terms of acoustic, the speakers are astoundingly great. The bass is repairable, and the sound is not metallic at all. This notebook is quiet. The fan usually only runs at a perceptible level during installation processes that are bulky and processor intensive and at short intervals during expanded use. As for heat, there is nominal warming on the left palm rest. Otherwise, the notebook is virtually silent. Nice!

Acer asserts the battery life for the customary 6-cell battery to be about 4 to 6 hours. The 1st charge gave about 4 hours and 20 minutes, and charges afterwards, with nothing disabled and battery at upper limit power tolerated for 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Overall
I would surely recommend the Acer TravelMate 5720 to anyone on a financial plan who wants a state-of-the-art machine for cheap. While they often look routine compared to some laptop designs, for some people the simple palette will be pleasing, and the Acer TravelMate software will be deemed useful for everyone apart from Windows power users. The Acer TravelMate will be functional for students on a budget, and some small businesses.

Pros
+ Scuttles very cool and very quiet
+ Excellent price
+ Excellent interface, useful side panel keys

Cons
- Display can cause some eyestrain
- The keyboard is arced, enter key is differently shaped.
- Sluggish performance than some likely configured machines
