SONY VAIO VGN-TZ17GN REVIEW

Delivering a powerful style statement, this super-portable from Vaio TZ series is a great looker. It gives you a great design and is ultra-light.

Design
Every connectivity option, like Card reader and headphone MIC slots, and LEDs showing status of hard disk, battery status and card reader status. WiFi and Bluetooth can be switched on and off using a slider in the front of the laptop. The keypad is super slick, and the screen is very pleasing, with bright and crisp quality and it supports a maximum resolution of 1366x768. The webcam above the screen has an additional feature of Motion EYE feature which tracks the face of the user within a certain range. The keypad area is glossy which turns to matte, which provides good friction to the wrists while typing. The touchpad has the fingerprint scanner between it, and the best part about the design is, that there is the power button on the right side of the hinge of the screen, which glows green while active and yellow-orange whenever it is in stand-by mode and the left side has the power adapter slot.

Performance
The laptop is powered by an Intel u7600 Core-2-Duo processor, the lowest voltage rating processor which is the best solution for the laptop category. It increases the backup time to quite some extent while compromising a bit on the performance. 1GB of RAM and 100GB of low rpm low voltage hard disk is another plus. The RAM is shared between the onboard graphics processor, which lowers the system performance a bit. It scores 2096 in PCMark 05 and only 120 3DMark 06. The laptop's performance in grpahics department is very poor and only previous generation games like doom2, UT ld, age of empires 1, 2 can be played. Multi-tasking between various processes is a breeze, but a little slowness can be observed, which is due to the Vista OS. The battery life is an amazing 5-6 hours on average, which is because of the low voltage components and decent battery.

Conclusion
A great deal, if you consider the style and the average performance. Very poor if you plan to play games on this one, you just wont be able to do it. Pricing is a bit on the higher side, but the style factor compensates for that.
