MSI MEGABOOK GX700 EXTREME REVIEW

The MSI Megabook GX700 Extreme Edition is a powerful notebook and is a gaming powerhouse. Designed for a gamer, this one has enough horse-power to make you scream with delight.

Design
This notebook is a gamer's delight with all the bells and whistles for a gaming notebook. The cover is a jet black with red flames all around and a big MSI logo in the center. The same design is followed inside too, one the keyboard and the touchpad too. This makes it look really great and spell binding in the first look. The screen is a 17” WUXGA with a maximum resolution of 1920x1200. It has been given a matte touch so that reflections don't hinder your gaming experience, but this reduces the quality a bit. Overall display and color quality is great, as for a gaming notebook. The connectivity options include 3 USB ports, Firewire, Ethernet and memory card reader all comfortably placed. The included VGA and HDMI ports are a great addition, and this notebook can give tough competition to a fully functional multimedia notebook.

Performance
An Intel 2.2 GHz Core-2-Duo T7500, 2GB RAM, 250GB hard drive and 8600M GT edition with 512MB RAM is what drives this monster. The latest Santa Rosa platform makes it a very efficient and excellent performer, which was really evident in the 3DMark 06 and PCMark tests. The notebook performed flawlessly, and the gaming results were outstanding. However, an inclusion of 8700M GT would have been a great addition. It secured 3608 3DMark 06 and 5182 PCMark 05, which is definitely above average and quite good.

Conclusion
The MSI Megabook GX700 Extreme is a great buy for the game-enthusiasts and it is a complete desktop replacement notebook. Another great point is the inclusion of a knapsack with the same design as the notebook, which makes it very convenient to carry to LAN fests, to the envy of your mates.

Pros
+ Great config/performance
+ Awesome packaging and design

Cons
- USB ports are few
- Lot of heat and Noise emission
