OLPC SCRAPS DUAL-TOUCH SCREEN X0-2 CONCEPT MACHINE

The OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) team has scrapped their ambitious dual-touch screen XO-2 concept machine due to budget constraints. The folks are now busy building an XO laptop version 1.75. The first XO laptop arrived a few years ago and it sort of sparked the netbook revolution.

The first XO laptop featured an AMD Geode processor. The next version XO 1.5 had a faster VIA processor. The proposed XO 1.75 will have similar looks, but it will run on an ARM-based processor and as such won’t be able to run Windows. But that shouldn’t be an issue, as the XO laptop is designed to run on Linux.

But Negroponte and his friends, the folks behind the project, are still optimistic. In fact they are already thinking about version 3.0. The goal is for XO laptop version 3.0 to run on just 1W of power and cost $75. They expect to release the product in 2012. Sounds ambitious, right?

TOSHIBA DMFC INTERNET VIEWER CONCEPT

We've been hearing Toshiba sing the DMFC tune for a while. But now its actually visible. DMFC stands for Direct Methanol Fuel Cell and according to the boys at Toshiba these things will be able to get a whole week of typical use on a methanol refill.

So far the concept system is running XP but by the time these do come to the market it would probably be Window's 7. Everything else is null for now including storage or processor. But no need to worry as Toshiba does not have a release date planned and seeing that this technology is still experimental we wouldn't advise holding your breath for it....seriously.

XO 2.0 CONCEPT – SPELLS THE PARTY SIDE OF OLPC

Just when you contemplated Nicholas Negroponte's hallucination of "One Laptop per Child" was all but the past; OLPC strikes back more sexier looking than ever before. This newest concept for the OLPC comprises a double touch screen crossing point, bridging the opening between conventional notebook and ultramodern tablet PC. What drives it even more inspiring is that Negroponte dreams this is achievable for a measly price of $75 by 2010.

Yes, the One Laptop per Child concept is back with a bang and enhanced than ever with the unveiling of the OLPC XO 2.0 concept. Granted, presently this ground-breaking notebook is nothing more than a dazzling idea and a few CGI press pics ... but yet again Mr. Negroponte fiddles in to generate several serious buzz around the scheme of inexpensive notebooks for kids. There is no info about the practical specifications for OLPC XO 2.0 further than it's anticipated to be half the size of the present OLPC with a very fascinating crossing point. What really spices the OLPC XO 2.0 so motivating is the elimination of a conventional keyboard in errand of the use of twofold "indoor-and-sunlight" touch screen screens that are analogous to those presently being employed on the iPhone and iPod Touch variants.
