GIGABYTE TOUCHNOTE T1028X CONVERTIBLE NETBOOK REVIEW

The Gigabyte TouchNote T1028X is an ultraportable netbook with a 10.1 inch display. It is powered by an Intel Atom N280 processor. Specifications don’t set it apart from other netbooks currently available in the market; still the TouchNote T1028X isn’t just another netbook.

Display and Graphics
The most remarkable thing about this netbook is indeed its display. The 10.1 inch display is touch-enabled. It also comes with a default resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. There is probably no other netbook in the market with a touch-screen display featuring 1366 x 768 pixels. The display can be folded down over the keyboard to use the device in tablet mode.

The touch screen shows good sensitivity. You will not have any difficulty navigating through programs using either the stylus or your finger. Gigabyte has also included some software applications which make the touch-screen easy to use.

The display itself is average. Colors aren’t very bright or vivid. The high
resolution of the display is both good and bad. It reduces the need to scroll when viewing web pages. On the flip side, having so many pixels on a tiny screen puts extra strain on your eyes.

Ports and Slots
There are 3 USB ports, headphone and microphone jacks. Other notable features include integrated 3G module (optional), VGA, Ethernet, SD card reader, an ExpressCard/34 slot.

Design
The TouchNote T1028X is slightly heavier and larger than typical 10 inch netbooks. It measures 1.5 inches in thickness and weighs around 3.3 pounds. The lid features an attractive glossy finish which is prone to collect fingerprints. The screen bezel, palm rest and other parts of the computer feature a matte finish.

The TouchNote comes with a 6-cell battery which sticks out a bit from the back of the notebook. The battery is expected to give 5 hours of up time. The netbook is very upgrade friendly with the bottom featuring easy access panels for RAM, hard drive and wireless module.

Speakers
The speakers aren’t very audible. So if you like to listen to a lot of music on your netbook you will definitely want to use headphones or a set of external speakers.

Keyboard and TouchPad
The keyword is wide and it stretches from one side of the case to the other. The keys provide nice tactile feedback. But for some unknown reason Gigabyte has reduced the size of some keys. The touchpad supports multi-touch gestures. While sensitivity is good the touchpad does pose some problems. Its buttons are located on the left and right side of it. This is an arrangement you will take sometime to get used to.

Performance
Performance is snappy. Boot times are good and applications load almost instantly. You will not have any difficulty performing your day to day activities like web surfing and word processing. But remember that this machine is powered by an Intel Atom processor which doesn’t have enough power to handle CPU intensive tasks such as editing and transcoding videos.

Conclusion
In terms of performance and build quality this is one of the best netbooks in the market. The touch-screen works just like it should. On the flip side this is one of the most expensive netbooks in the market. In fact, this is not a netbook at all because netbooks are supposed to be small and cheap.

Gigabyte recently upgraded the TouchNote T1028X. It is now available from Amazon for $668. This model ships with Windows 7 and a 250GB hard drive. But like the previous version, the upgraded version also comes with 1GB of DDR2 RAM. The model with an integrated 3G module sells for $788.

GATEWAY CONVERTING THE WAY CONVERTIBLE LOOKS

What is a Convertible Notebook

The Gateway Convertible Notebook looks just like a conventional laptop. Except very reason that it's not. It has a full-size keyboard and 14" widescreen display. And it can be used for all your regular computing needs, and Much more.
Login the 007 way:

Safe Guards your system and ensure your privacy. Your fingerprint is the most unique password you could ever have, and the UPEK® Biometric Fingerprint Reader makes it possible.
Up underneath:
What makes Convertible Notebook unique is the way you can take the top down—literally. You can transform the display screen, just swivel the screen 180 degrees and lay it flat over the keyboard for comfortable writing. Now that's a convertible!

Everything Onscreen-Do More:
Unlike a touch screen, the Convertible Notebook's display screen receives information from a special pen called a stylus, so taking notes and drawing diagrams doesn't require a special program. And you can use the stylus as you use a mouse to do things like select, drag and open files.

HP TX1000 CONVERTIBLE NOTEBOOK REVIEW

Introduction
This is the perfect entertainment book for the guy on the run. Hp’s tx1000 starts at 1300$ and offers a lot of good features. This portable notebook come with a 1.3-megapixel webcam, 5-in-1 digital media reader, a mini remote control for your media center, and a lot more. You also get Windows Vista installed.

Design
This machine is black on the outside and silver on the inside but glossy overall. The design looks very fresh and modern and the weight is only 4.2 lbs. This is almost a ultra portable laptop, and it can follow you wherever you go. The case is made of plastic and it is not 100% stable but works well enough for a small laptop as this. However there is not much flex in this laptop and it is actually quite solid. The tx1000 also features a tablet or swivel mode which is very impressive. The keyboard is very nice and I cannot find anything wrong with it except that the functions buttona are very small. The touchpad on this machine does not only perform well but it also looks very cool and original. The machine also features tons of ports like 3 USB ports, two Infrared, one Modem - RJ-11, one RJ-45 LAN, one Express Card and one notebook expansion port 3 etc.

Performance
This is laptop features excellent performance for such a small machine. The thx1000 comes with a AMD Turion X2 TL-60 Dual core processor and Nvidia Go 6150 video card. The laptop performs excellent even with Vista installed and you won’t have any problems with lag. You also get 1GB RAM but if you are going with Vista you better order 2GB. We did a test in PCMark05 and got the score of 3065 points (very nice for such a portable laptop). However as you might have guessed this is not a gaming machine and you will not be able to run many games on this little guy, so if gaming is your passion you better stay away from this laptop. However this laptop works excellent for everyone else, even a businessman.

Conclusion
This might be a very acceptable student laptop with all its features are light weight. The laptop is overall solid and offers good performance for the price.

Pros
+ Cool design
+ Reasonable cost
+ Many connection facilities

Cons
- The screen could have been better
- Little bit flex in some of the parts
- Weak battery life
