SONY RECALLS POTENTIALLY SHOCKING ADAPTERS

Sony and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have issued a voluntary recall on a number of Sony adapters because they could cause electric shock. Users who bought a Sony computer between 2005 and 2009 could be at risk. The voluntary recall is issued on Sony’s VGP-AC19V17 AC adapter model. This model has been shipped with a number of Sony products including the following:

# All-in-one VAIO desktops of the VGC-LT series and VGC-JS2 series
# VAIO Docking Stations of the VGP-PRBX1 and VGP-PRFE1 series

Sources state that about 69,000 adapters sold between September 2005 and October 2009 will be recalled. Sony has also asked users to immediately stop using the recalled adapters. If you are one of the affected users call (877) 361-4481 or visit esupport.sony.com/ac19adapter to contact Sony about a replacement.

ACER RECALLS FIVE ASPIRE SERIES LAPTOPS

Acer has warned that some of its Aspire Series notebooks may be susceptible to overheating. The company has, therefore, decided to recall five models of its Aspire series notebooks.

Acer said that the affected models may experience overheating if you put too much pressure on the left palm rest. Extreme pressure on the left palm rest will cause the microphone cable to heat up. The problem will, in turn, result in the deformation of the unit and possible system failure. The increased temperature in the chassis may also cause other components to malfunction. The affected Aspire models are: Acer Aspire AS3410, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG.

You can determine whether your model is affected or not by filling out the form on Acer’s website. Acer will replace or repair the affected models free of cost.
