WESTERN DIGITAL RELEASES NEW 2.5 INCH 640GB HDD

Scorpio Blue 640, the new 640 hard disk drive from Western Digital, measures up 2.5 inch with a 9.5mm height. It is perfect for use in high capacity laptops.

Western Digital claims that it consumes 30% less power than the previous generation Scorpio Blue. This reduction in power consumption will improve the battery life in the laptops in which it is installed.

The Scorpio Blue 640 spins at 5400rpm. It is faster than the 4200rpm drives. But you might still find it slower if you are used to working on a 7200rpm drive. The new drive has an 8 MB cache. It also features speeds of SATA 3 Gb/s. It will cost around $149.

HP LAUNCHES DESIGNER NETBOOK - THE HP VIVIENNE TAM DIGITAL CLUTCH

HP has announced a new netbook in conjunction with fashion designer Vivienne Tam. The new netbook has its design inspired by a classic Chinese love story titled ‘Butterfly Lovers’. The lid of the netbook has big butterflies against a champagne background. The previous HP Vivienne Tam netbook had a red floral design.

The device dubbed HP Vivienne Tam digital clutch is targeted at women around the world. It is expected to be available in spring 2010. No information regarding its specifications or pricing is available as of now.

“To me, butterflies symbolize love, freedom, independence and transformation,” said Vivienne Tam adding, “When women around the globe carry HP’s digital clutch and wear my clothes, I want them to feel independent and free, like butterflies.”

WESTERN DIGITAL RELEASES TWO 2TB DRIVES

Western Digital has released two 2TB drives – the Caviar Black and RE4. Spinning at 7200rpm, they are some of the fastest 2TB drives available today.

Both drives have four platters and come with 64MB of cache. Other features include a dual stage actuator, 3Gbps SATA, and an integrated dual processor.

The RE4 is designed for use in ‘high-end enterprise environments’ such as servers and networks. It has advanced features such as an Active Power Save, enhanced RAFF technology, a multi-axis shock sensor, and 1.2million hours MTBF. The Caviar Black is designed for use in gaming and workstations.

There is no information regarding the pricing of RE4, but the Caviar Black can be purchased for $299.

The WDH2Q20000 External Hard disk Drive is also Mac attuned and is eco-friendlier as it uses Green-Power drives, which uses 30% lesser power than customary drives. Plus it’s quiet since it doesn't even require a fan for cooling. The My Book Studio Edition 2 is attuned with Apple's Time Machine. Connectivity preferences include e-SATA, FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB 2.0. 5 Year warranty is also incorporated and will cost you $599.99. With so much memory space to store you have to pay a bit more than you would normally expect to.
