ACER FERRARI 1200 ULTRAPORTABLE NOTEBOOK

Acer has announced the Ferrari 1200, an all new ultraportable notebook series, as a successor to its Ferrari 1100. This show stopper series comes in the true spirit of the Italian race car. Well, at least they have tried to bring in some features that is supposed to give you the feel of driving a real Ferrari, like the anodized metal touchpad that resembles the acceleration and brake pedals of a F1 car. Also the Acer Ferrari 1200 has a carbon-fiber cover(this material is actually used in race cars) that is lighter and stronger than magnesium alloy, giving it the ultra portability. Another feature to imitate the race car is an unique ventilation system that supposedly “echoes the exhaust pipes of F1 cars”. To finish off the dressing, it has a tasteful matted finish with soft-touch coating and of course has the strategically placed Ferrari Racing Shield logos.

Now coming to the not so important features, the Acer Ferrari 1200 is driven by the AMD Turion X2 Ultra processor with AMD M780G chipset, and packs up to 4GB of DDR2 memory and includes a 'large capacity' SATA hard drive, Acer InviLink WiFi Certified network connection, Bluetooth connectivity, a biometric fingerprint scanner along with Acer DASP hard drive protection system, an integrated slot-loading DVD SuperMulti optical drive and 2nd generation Dolby Home Theater audio for the ultimate multimedia experience. The Acer Ferrari 1200 sports a 12.1-inch CrystalBrite LCD with LED backlit display, a webcam and comes with an exclusive Bluetooth wireless mouse and an optional Xpress VoIP handset .

There is no word on how much it is going to cost you to drive a Acer Ferrari 1200, but rest assured that it is going to be more than the older model and hopefully you can get hold of one by the first half of 2009.

SONY VGN-SZ791N REVIEW - THE LATEST ULTRAPORTABLE

When Sony launched off its SZ series of ultra portable variant notebook with the VAIO VGN-SZ170P, the company illustrated that it was the 1st to realize how important distinct graphics and an optical drive were to performance appealing world travelers. Are they really the first ones to promote the revolutionizing combo, read on to reveal that…

Design
The SZ791N has a slim, attractive look. The carbon fiber hood is beautifully crafted, Look at it intimately and you can spot the fiber strands and delicate sparkles embedded in the coffee-brown peripheral. The 13-inch LED display is amazingly slender, but the way the hood flexes hoists some disquiets about potential damage to the display screen. But Sony requires to work on the resistance of the keys if they intend to make them top-notch, like those in the flawlessly lessened keyboard of the likes of Lenovo ThinkPad X61.
Performance
The SZ791N is the 1st ultra-portable notebook to reveal on our bench with an Intel Penryn CPU, the 2.5-GHz Core 2 Duo T9300. The processor alone helped boost the SZ791N notch above the opposition, delivering exceptional benchmark test scores. Its performance is duly spirited by the 4GB of RAM. The SZ791N produced the quickest Adobe Photoshop CS3 scores compared to the competitor sores. In all when compared to the low powered notebooks of the fujitsu and the Mac-Book air it explains why the SZ791N was able to run away with high end performance in the video-encoding including 3D-rendering achieves as well.

The SZ791N stays on to be one of the few ultra-portables that run on isolated graphics. The graphics duly powered by the NVidia Geforce 8400M GS chipset that permits you to run many current 3D gaming titles. With the connectivity options vividly charted out, and the battery power doing extremely great work in keep you away from main power points is a definite benchmark from the market leader.

Overall
Since its commencement, the Sony SZ series has competed with the Lenovo ThinkPad X61 notebook and its forerunners for the top smudge as an all-around ultraportable laptop. With the VAIO VGN-SZ791N, Sony has lastly pulled its way past the X61 by being the 1st to set free a system with the new-fangled Penryn processor. Intel's most modern CPU helped the SZ791N distribute a blend of concert and battery life that heads the competitions.

Pros
+ An ultra portable that’s better than X61
+ Amazing combo of features
+ Decent graphics
+ Very good battery life
+ New updated technology of CPU

Cons
- Screen lid build too flexi
- As ever usual Sony pricing too high

SONY TZ MARKS THE ULTRAPORTABLE REPLY FOR MAC AIR - REVIEW

Sony’s latest ultra portable laptop is as light as u feel the air. With its astoundingly skinny and a skimpy light design, the TZ notebook is surely for the mobile user. It has a modish design, from the green power button to the carbon fiber covering. On paper and in pictures, there’s nothing to deny liking about the TZ from top to bottom.

Design
The design of the TZ is strictly breath taking. The TZ is exceptionally light and thin loaded with a weight around 2.65 lbs and a thickness of fewer than 2 inches. To emphasize the design even few steps further, the keyboard bezel has a polished, piano like finish. Unlike most notebook keyboards, however, the TZ has better raised keys. The main design distress one finds is when using the TZ is its noise while you operate, but this might be due to a constantly running fan since the notebook never got hot at all.

Performance
The TZ Ultra compact had a 1.33 GHz Ultra Low Voltage Intel Core 2 Duo CPU coupled with an upgraded 2 GB of DDR2 RAM and a high tech all new 64 GB SSD. All of these ingredients help to give the TZ its ultra-lightweight tag and extremely thin design, not to mention implausible battery life (more on that older TZ’s).

Also comprised is an incorporated wireless card for Sprint’s broadband service, which runs on the hasty EVDO revision A network. To support usage, the TZ arrives with a 1-month free subscription to the Sprint’s service. Aside from Sprint’s mobile service, the TZ also offers shore up for 802.11a/b/g/n and Bluetooth.

It also comes with a DVD-RW drive and a 2.0 mega pixel Motion-Eye camera built into the LCD display. While not quite as stripped like the Mac-Book Air, the TZ doesn’t crush with connectivity. You’ve got a VGA output, 2 USB ports for connectivity and expandability, LAN, dial-up, Fire-wire, and SD/Memory-stick slot as well as audio and microphone jacks.

The Sony TZ is not built to break any performance records, but with a lower clocked Ultra Low Voltage processor this low performance is to be expected. Regardless, performance should be more than satisfactory for the standard habitual usage. On the brighter side, this lustrous ultraportable does have exceptional battery life.

Conclusion
Sony’s TZ is a healthy featured, highly manageable laptop with grand battery life. Most people will be glad about its sleek, modern design that is trendy yet understated.

Pros
+ Compact, contemporary design
+ Very light and thin
+ brilliant battery life SSD option
+ Bright, vivid screen

Cons
- SSD capability
- Great Price
