Netbook users can now download and test a new beta version of Moblin Linux. The Moblin 2.1 as it is dubbed has enhanced features including the following:
It supports 3G data connections
Allows Bluetooth device management
Has updated browser with plug-in support
Supports more connectivity options including Ethernet, WiMax, WiFi and 3G
Has integrated application installer for Moblin Garage
The new version also supports more screen resolutions. This feature will come handy if you want to install the Moblin OS on a nettop or all-in-one PC. These features, however, are still not fully functional. For example, the only 3G modem that is supported by the OS so far is the Ericsson MBM, but support for additional models is expected as it moves out of beta.
The best thing about Moblin Linux is that it is not a piece of standalone software. The folks who work on the project have made it available to other developers working on independent Linux distributions such as Ubuntu and Linpus making it possible for them to use the Moblin user interface and netbook-oriented optimizations.
