ACER ASPIRE 4720 REVIEW

A solution which is meant for good performance-price ratio, this one is based on the Intel Santa Rosa platform. A good build, nice performance is what this laptop is about. Lets discover more

Design
All black exteriors, and all white interiors is a nice combination which has been employed. The external is a shiny surface which is quite prone to fingerprints. The left of the product has VGA, S-video, Ethernet, 2 Usb slots and the Express card reader slot. The right has the DVD/CD writer , 2 more USB ports and an Adapter slot. The headphone, mic ports are under the lid along with the volume controller. Widescreen display , webcam and a microphone was encountered when the laptop was opened. Below the screen are the WiFi/ bluetooth toggle keys and shortucts for mail applications and browser etc. The keyboard is standard laptop sized one, followed by a touchpad below. The touchpad has 4-way mechanical scrolling button.

The overall build quality is good, quite sturdy and absolutely no creaking. Weighing at 2.45 kgs , its not much but a little bulky to carry around. The screen is of great quality, and sharp images are produced. Keypad is smooth like all others, and the touchpad is above average.

Performance
The performance of the machine was quite good. It achieved a 3461 score in the PCmark test. 3DMark 06 score was 527 which is quite good regarding the fact that the GPU is an onboard X3100. The Core-2Duo processor achieves the desired performance marks. 1Gb DDR-2 RAM is sufficient for today's business applications and light gaming. The Santa Rosa platform made this perform better than its AMD sibling. Windows Vista ran perfectly smooth, and overall performance was quite good. For average games this is a complete solution , but if you are thinking of high-end gaming with this one, just miss this one. Its just meant for a casual gaming experience, and business applications, no doubt.

Conclusion
The laptop is a good performer at the price for which it retails. It definitely strikes a good chord in the Value For Money department. The battery life lasted 2 hrs 20 mins on full load, so you can expect it to go upto 3 hrs in power saving mode. Priced a little more than its AMD sibling , the increment in the performance is worth this extra.
