ASUS G1S GAMING LAPTOP REVIEW

The next edition of the G1 notebook by ASUS, this one is based on the Santa Rosa platform, and thats the reason for the big S there. Great performance, low power consumption is the trademark of this platform and implementing it for Gaming, thats just the right combination. Lets find out more.

Design
Utilizing the carbon fibre as the skin of the laptop, this one was given the light and sturdy feel by combining these carbon fibre with brushed metal. Still, it weighed 3.1 kgs, which is quite heavy. Nice, flashing lights around the laptop makes it an ideal companion for that LAN gaming fest next door. The left of the notebook has only the Light Scribe DVD drive. On the right, there is an audio panel having one MIC, one headphone and one SPDIF. LAN, modem, mini IEEE 1394, PCMCIA, S-video, and flash reader are also at this side. 4 USB ports at the back along with eSATA, HDMI, VGA are a bit difficult to access, but you get used to this minor problem. A large 15.4 inch Colorshine TFT screen is what meets the eye when you open the notebook. Supporting a maximum resolution of 1680x1050, the screen is a pleasure to look at. A 1.3MP inbuilt webcam with recording capabilities is also present above the screen. A screen which displays the time and system info is present on top-left of the base, supported by HDD, caps, scroll lock, numlock keys on the right. There are 5 buttons on the rightmost side of the base, each of which are designed for browser, mail application , custom-application, touchpad enable key and power key on the rightmost. The touchpad is good and is very responsive, and media buttons of play pause etc line up below the touchpad.

Performance
The best performer in this category, because of the Santa Rosa platform, this one has an edge over every other gaming laptop available in the market. The product is preloaded with Windows Vista Ultimate, and still I never had a single moment when the laptop was sluggish. The Core-2duo T7300 and 965PM chipset give the max performance achievable. A 160 Gb hdd , 2GB of Ram , is plentiful for your gaming and storage needs. The lappy achieved a 3254 PCMark score. Powered by the Nvidia GO 8600GT 256MB card, it lets you run the latest games with all the eye-candy ON. A great performer in the gaming field , and a worthy investment. I couldn't help but notice, that the directional keys were a bit small, which did not create a problem for me, but will definitely stress out people with large fingers. The product achieved 3903 3D Marks, which is again quite good.

Conclusion
Great screen, great graphics, very fast, superb quality of design, these factors make it the current best in the gaming field available. Clubbed with the Santa Rosa platform , this one is a steal at the price its being offered. So , take it out, and see your friends burn green at the next LAN Gaming fest of your area.
