ASUS G2K REVIEW

ASUS G2K ,the latest in the G2 series of Asus which is about ATI graphics and AMD cores, this laptop is a cousin of G1S. We test if it can beat the G1S at its own game.

Design
It is a combination of red and black, red for ATI, and has a rugged look because of the brushed metal all over the machine. The overall layout and arrangement is awesome, truly for a gamer. All the ports line up the left or the rear, and the right has only the optical drive and the speakers. It has a 5 USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, TV Out, VGA, S-video, MIC/Headphone, Firewire, Express Card, AV, Wlan switch, HDMI and a grouped E-Sata and USB port. The front has the handy media buttons exactly like the G1S. They keyboard design is awesome and it has been done with the gamer requirement in mind. The WSAD keys are marked red, and so are the directional keys. Only problem is that the directional keys are a tad too small. A 17” WSXGA+ screen is one of the best that we have seen, and it supports a maximum resolution of 1680x1050. The quality is simply great and no reflectivity makes it an ideal gaming machine.

Performance
An AMD Turion 64 X2 2.2 GHz processor, 2GB RAM, HD 2600 GPU and 250GB hard drive is the basic specification of this machine. The overall performance of the laptop is awesome, and it achieved a score of 4,834 in PCMark 05 and 3,548 3DMark 06. Both of these are great, and this means that the processor and the GPU both can handle the latest games and processor demanding application very easily. Multi-tasking was a breeze, and not a single point came when we could say that it has lost its power.

Conclusion
A great gaming notebook, it ran all latest games like Crysis, COD4 etc at med-high settings. A great design, and superb screen, this one can be the envy of your fellow gamers for some time to come.

Pros
+ Great screen
+ Great performance
