Boys, we have a babe with us today. The name is Gateway T-6815. Pretty futuristic, isn't she? Jokes apart, this notebook from Gateway is a multimedia oriented, affordable notebook with a great design. Lets find out more about her.
Design
It has a glossy black colored scheme, and uses the Ridgeview dot pattern, which engraves the dot design into the hull of the notebook. The gloss makes her look good, but the ever persisting problem of fingerprints arises. The screen is a 14.1” widescreen and it gives a decent resolution of 1280x800 pixels. The viewing angle range of the screen is good but there is an issue with the reflectivity of the screen. The 1.3MP camera above the screen can take good photos but delivers jerky recording capabilities. The keypad is large enough for the slim notebook that we have, and a metal strip above it houses the shortcut keys for Media Center, Music Library etc. A 5-in-1 card reader, HDMI and a 8x DVD drive along with the regular options of USB port comprise the connectivity options.
Performance
1.5GHz Core-2-Duo, 1Gb RAM made the notebook perform well in our PCMark test, achieving a score of 3,426. The integrated Intel 965 GMA failed to impress us with a score of 1,512 in 3DMark06, which means that you won't be able to play recent games at good quality. But the notebooks performance while multi-tasking was quite good. The battery did not give very good results, with a runtime of only 2 hours which is definitely below average than other notebooks in its class.
Conclusion
This notebook is a perfect balance between looks, performance, price and features. A better graphics sub-system would have given it a lot of advantage over its peers. A good buy for the price at which it retails.
Pros
+ Good performance-price ratio
+ Great design and looks
Cons
- Poor battery
- Bad graphics performance
