This notebook from HP COMPAQ is a great deal for business class users, it gives you the combined power of performance and security. And oh, it has good looks too!
Design
The notebook is made up of magnesium alloy, giving it a sturdy feel. The notebook has been given a professional touch and that is evident from the initial look. The screen, 14.1” in size, supports a maximum resolution of 1440x900. The screen quality is great and the matte feel removes the reflectivity problem to a large extent. The keyboard has been coated with an extra layer so as to prevent the regular abuse due to swift typing. Rubber borders have also been given to the screen and the keyboard, making the design very durable. Left has the USB slots, Firewire slot, MIC/headphone jacks and the PC card slot. DVD drive, USB slot and Ethernet port are there on the right. The VGA and S-Video port are at the back of the laptop.
Performance
The laptop came with a 2GHz Core-2-Duo processor and 2Gb of RAM. The decent score of 3,844 in PCMark05 is a result of the good configuration that the laptop has. It could run multiple applications very easily, but the graphics sub-system of the laptop is not good. It only scores 1,682 in 3DMark03 with the integrated graphics, and this can be increased by putting in a little cash and opting for a better graphics system. WiFi performance was also good, with good speeds even at a larger distance. The battery lasted 2 hours and 27 minutes while watching a DVD, so around 3 hours 30 minutes should be the runtime when using for business work.
Conclusion
The laptop's price may be a bit on the higher side, but it delivers good mobility + performance option, along with the security of the fingerprint reader and hard drive encryption. A good buy for those who don't mind the price tag.
Pros
+ Great security options
+ Good performance for its class
Cons
- Pricing is not good
