HP PAVILION DV6500Z REVIEW

A great combination of multimedia capabilities, strong dual-core computing power and decent connectivity options, this notebook is a steal, for under $1,000. Lets find out more about it

Design
The notebook is designed in glossy black Radiance finish, which manages to look great but is like a fingerprint magnet. The screen is a 15.4-inch widescreen , with a maximum resolution of 1280x800. The picture quality achieved was great, and so was the color correction but the screen faced issues with reflectivity. A couple of microphones and a VGA webcam has been embedded into the upper portion of the screen. The keyboard is nice silvery bright, and the touchpad is quite good too. The Altec Lansing speakers that have been coupled do a great job in the sounds department. The laptop offers HDMI, VGA, S-Video, 3 USB , 1 Firewire, Ethernet, Modem, 5-in-1 card reader and an express card slot. The number of connectivity options is quite good for a budget laptop.

Performance
The laptop comes with 2-Ghz Turion AMD X2 processor, 2GB memory and 160GB hard drive. The specifications are very good for a budget PC and so is the performance. The laptop scored about 3,884 in PCMark05 and 5,196 in 3DMark 03. These scores speak the laptops power to give a great performance. The battery life is also great, with the laptop lasting around 3 hours average. The superb score in graphics department can be owed to GeForce 8400M, which is a good inclusion in this budget. Coupled with a huge hard drive of 160Gb, this laptop is sufficient to store a nice collection of your games, and obviously, play them at good settings too!

Conclusion
A great combination of price and performance, this includes most of your connectivity, and is the best budget multimedia solution for laptops.

Pros
+ Great bang for buck
+ Graphics performance is best in the class

Cons
- Screen reflectivity issues.
