INTEL’S RESPONSE TO OLPC OF AMD REACHES 2ND GENERATION

Intel has revealed a new edition of its Classmate mini-notebook reference design. Now targeting purchasers and schoolchildren both, and running either Windows XP or Linux, the device has an in built 30GB hard drive, an altered touchpad and keyboard, webcam, and a 9-inch screen. The original classmate debuted in March 2007 as a part of Intel's "World Ahead" agenda aimed at school children in promising markets. Obtainable with a 2GB SSD (solid-state drive) packing Windows XP, or a 1GB SSD packing Linux, the Classmate was extensively viewed as Intel's response to the AMD-based OLPC device. The 2nd-generation Classmate will be sold openly to the public.
