Introduction
The T61 uses the new Intel Centrino Duo platform (Santa Rosa) and offers a many different design updates. We took a closer look at this 14.1-inch widescreen laptop to see what it got to offer.
Design
This looks and is a business laptop, it is very solid and it won’t fall apart if you use it hard so it also fits for the traveler. The design seems boring to me but it is perfect for the serious business man who wants something good and solid. They keyboard and the touchpad works okay, nothing special about that. This laptop is also tough and can handle a hard day at work.
This pc also features monitor out port, modem and Ethernet LAN port, 2 USB 2.0 ports, ExpressCard and PC card slot, IEEE 1394 port (FireWire), Wi-Fi on/off switch, headphone jack, microphone jack etc.
Screen
The screen here is a WXGA+ resolution (1440 x 900) with a matte look. This screen offers a little bit over average quality because you can view it nice from all angles, but it lacks in brightness. However the screen works good overall for a business man.
Performance
The ThinkPad T61 uses the Intel Centrino Duo (Santa Rosa) platform which is a fast processor for a business laptop. For graphics you get a in-built Intel X3100 graphic adapter that actually works quite okay. You also get 2 GB of memory and a100GB 7200RPM hard drive. This is a very nice setup for a business laptop and it will last a long time. However I still recommend Windows XP for this laptop since Vista fails 1 GB of the laptops memory.
For the benchmarks the laptop did very good with the Intel X3100 graphic adapter. On 3DMark 05 we got 911 points which is very goof for a graphic adapter like this and a lot better then the Intel GMA 950 ever scored. For PCMark05 we got 4093 points and almost beat the HP dv6000t multimedia laptop.
Conclusion
I would recommend this to any businessman who is looking for something solid that will last for a long time and with a powerful performance. The Laptop is good overall and offers many good features.
Pros
+ Good overall quality
+ Good performance for a business laptop
+ Great battery life
Cons
- Lack of screen brightness
- Does not work flawless with Windows Vista
