The Lenovo Thinkpad X300 is the latest in the thinkpad category, and is basically meant for the professional on the move. A decent notebook, we review it for you.
Design
The build quality is very sturdy, and the usage of carbon fiber in the design makes it very strong and light. And since its a Thinkpad, don't worry if you drop it a couple of times, because it would still retain its normality, and work like it should! Its a slim baby, so you can expect some green faces when you carry it to work. It has a 13.3” WXGA screen which has good brightness and quality, and it supports a maximum resolution of 1280x800. The screen has good viewing angles, but it falters when it is stretched too much. The keyboard is great, and no flex was observed in that area. With matte keys, the keyboard looks great overall, and has shortcut keys to carry out the regular tasks. The notebook suffers a bit in the connectivity, with only 3 USB ports, Ethernet, VGA, Headphone/MIC. The PCMCIA is missing and so is firewire.
Performance
It runs on a low voltage Intel Core-2-Duo 1.2 GHz L7100 processor, 2GB RAM and 64GB solid state drive (SSD). It can multi-task easily, and can run all your business applications with ease, but think of gaming, and the machine falters. It scored a decent 3,467 PCMark 05 score while the 3DMark results were pathetic. The SSD made a lot of difference, and increased the performance a lot. The battery life was decent, and in normal mode, it ran upto 4 hours, which is quite good for a notebook of this class.
Conclusion
The Lenovo Thinkpad X300 is a great notebook with a flawless design, but only for those who desire to use it for business tasks and not 3D intensive stuff like Gaming. However, it still does not have anything exceptional for the price tag at which it comes at.
Pros
+ Great design
+ Awesome battery
Cons
- Poor GPU
- High price
