MACBOOK-AIR STRIPED AND GETS EXPOSED

One inquisitive hacker decided to take the intense step and find it out. Of course, we all know the MacBook Air is a super slim performer and adding ports on the machine would've made it less appealing aesthetically. But don't you want to know what the Air is holding inside its shell?

The Mac Book Air uses Intel's ICH8 Southbridge which holds the USB controllers. The official Intel spec-sheet shows it has five low-speed controllers and 2 high-speed controllers. Each of these controllers is capable of getting connected to 2 USB devices, so theoretically you would be able to connect 14 devices. But, the ICH8 Southbridge only has pins provided for 10 ports in view of the fact that pins are pricey and they make the device bulkier.

So the hackers started searching for the five low-speed and two high-speed controllers located on the system board. Surrounding the ICH8 Southbridge were a number of test pad pins These test pad pins are utilized for testing purposes sometimes it can be used to add more functionality or up gradation if at all one is required. The Mac Book USB Port hacker was sanguinely hoping that some of these pins can even be unused USB connectors. And guess what? There were a quite few unused USB connectors. Has this unearthed the Air’s vacuum Chamber?
