The Sony Vaio SZ6 is a 13" from Sony, which is basically the part of the SZ series of Sony which claim to be the ultra-portables. Lets explore this one.
Design
The SZ6 has been designed using the carbon fiber black casing which gives it a superb matte look. The design is awesome and a head turner, its one of the slickest notebook I have seen. The keyboard and the touchpad suffered a bit, from clicking noise and unergonomic design. Overall, the design was superb, with an exceptional casing and feel. The screen is a 13-incher, and supports a maximum resolution of 1280x800. The WXGA screen has awesome quality, and is backed by LED technology. The color quality, brightness and even the viewing angles were great. Again, one of the best screens that I have seen. The connectivity is again very detailed, with USB, Firewire, Ethernet, VGA, heahphone/MIC, PCMCIA, ExpressCard and Card Reader.
Performance
The notebook has a decent configuration to boot, with a 2.2 GHz Intel Core-2-Duo T7500 processor, 2GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, 8400M GS GPU. The performance was decent, with nothing spectacular to rave about. The notebook scored a 3,925 in PCMark 05 and the gaming results were good too. Multi-tasking was not a problem, and mostly no slump was experienced while browsing internet, working on Word, listening to music simultaneously. The 8400M GS gives it decent power to handle the load of recent games at low-medium. The battery life was good, and it came to average around 3-4 hours. Being an ultra-portable, a battery backup of that much is required for a good rating.
Conclusion
The Sony Vaio SZ6 is a good notebook considering the style factor and the overall design. However, the magic fizzes out when it comes to performance. The results were plain average, and the only striking things is the inclusion of 8400M GS, which allows casual gaming.
Pros
+ Good battery life
+ Great design
Cons
- Keyboard and touchpad are of bad quality
