TOSHIBA PORTEGE-M400 REVIEW

Introduction
This is a older generation from Toshiba. The machine features a 12-inch screen and a swappable optical drive. This machine is ultra portable and very cheap. Let’s take a closer look what this laptop has to offer us.

Design
The 4.8-pound Portege M400 measures 11.6 inches wide, 9.8 inches deep, and 1.6 inches thick. Even though the machine goes under the category “utltraportable” I still think that it is a little bit bulky. I also find the design kind of unoriginal and boring here. The screen offers a native resolution of 1024x768 which is quite low but totally okay for such a small screen. The keyboard and touchpad works fine with me even though they keyboard is small.

When I said that the laptop was cheap I didn’t just talk about money, I also talked about the cheap plastic design. However the laptop also got some good sides on the designer part, for example FireWire, VGA, USB 2.0 ports; headphone and microphone jacks; and one Type II PC Card slot, as well as a 5-in-1 flash media card slot. Overall the design is average but still okay for a laptop of this generation.

Performance
The laptop features a 1.66 GHz Intel Core solo processor, 512 MB memory and 80 GB storage space running on 5400 rpm. For graphics you get the integrated Intel 950 graphic card. As you see the performance is outdated and you will have no chance to run Vista on this machine. However these specs are fine if you run Windows XP and use the laptop for writing work etc. The Portege M400 battery life lasted for 4 hours, 20 minutes which is quite acceptable for such a small machine.

Conclusion
This is a cheap choice for the average business man, however if you need something powerful this is not the way to go, but if you just want to write articles etc this laptop works perfect.
