Introduction
If you are looking for a Desktop replacement this new Toshiba model might be the perfect laptop for you. This is a machine built with entertainment in mind. The laptop features a 17-inch screen, good speakers and costs only 700 Euro!
Design
This design is pretty standard but it is still cool. The glossy 17-inch screen with a 1440 x 900 resolution looks great. The keyboard is large and pleasant to type on and right above it you will find some short cut buttons for the media center etc. Overall the keyboard and the touchpad work great on this laptop. Toshiba Satellite P200-17C also comes with built in Harman Kardon speakers. These are excellent with very good sound for a laptop. One cool thing with this laptop is that it costs only 700 Euro and still features a HDMI output so you can watch your movies on your big screen.
However everything is not good about this machine, the keyboard looks like its made of metal from distance, but as soon as you get close you see that it is only cheap plastic. The size and weight almost make it not easily portable and the battery life only lasted for 1 hour and 30 minutes when playing a movie. In theory the P200 would be a great machine for playing back movies on, but unfortunately there's an array of bright blue indicators on the front that could be overly distracting in low light conditions.
Performance
The P200 offers a decent performance for the price but it is not a gaming laptop. Here we find a 1.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 processor, a ATI mobility Radeon HD2400 and 2GB DDR II RAM. WE did some benchmark tests and on 3DMark06 we got 1495 points while on PCMark05 we got 3745 points. These cores are okay for a multimedia laptop but if you are a gamer I recommend something else.
Conclusion
The P200 is an average entertainment laptop with some bad sides and some good sides. However for such a cheap price and 17-inches, this laptop is pretty good and offers an okay performance. Maybe a perfect laptop for the low-budget multimedia person.
Pros
+ Cheap (700 Euro)
+ Great screen
Cons
- Bad designed keyboard
- Poor battery life
Value For Money
