The victim, a man in his twenties, had been robbed and was talking about his laptop notebook computer that had been lifted from his home during a break and enter crime. The police officer asked the man if there was some type of global positioning system installed on the missing laptop. No, unfortunately there was no such type of device or tool on the laptop.
This really got me thinking about why laptops do not come equipped with such features already installed on them. GPS is on many things, so why not a notebook? I researched a little and found there are companies that you can buy the GPS service from for a small monthly fee. There really needs to be more competition in this area because once the thieves figure out how to disable the very few GPS services available, they will no longer act as protection. We have them on our cell phones and cars, and I think they should be standard issue for laptops because of the high risk of theft with these valuable and personal items.
