SAMSUNG Q310-34P LAPTOP (FIRST LOOK)

11-16-08-samsung_q310-34p Samsung has not had a branded laptop in the states (though they were responsible for a Dell ultra portable). That being said the company decided to get its feet wet (so to speak) with its new ultra-portable system.

While initial results do not look shabby (to say the least) I will advise you that this is not a deal breaker. The Q310-34P is packed with a 13-3 inch screen which weighs just under 5 pounds (4.8 to be exact), along with the usual USB 2.0 port, 8X optical drive (sorry no BD), headphones and microphone jack and yes a VGA and HDMI port. You also get a 7 in 1 memory card reader.

While the design is pretty clean and crisp (nothing extravagant) you should be aware that the stacked USB ports might cause a small problem when multiple devices are in use.

The display is OK, and video playback is pretty clean. As for performance its pretty speedy with Vista booting in under 50 seconds thanks to a 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

Wi-Fi and battery life are pretty solid. Although this is an ultra-portable it does have a 6 cell battery that is tested to go for 4 hours and 40 minutes. Wi-Fi reception is also pretty good and yes you will be able to watch Hulu and Netflix (streaming) on your notebook.

All in all Samsung's first attempt to break the ice in the US markets has been a success. Not a resounding success but a solid play against the competition. All is need is is for you to fork over $1200 for this baby.
