LAPTOP PRICES FALLING IN THE US

Laptop prices are falling with many retailers in the US offering fully equipped systems for less than $300. Starting July 26, the retail giant Wal-Mart will start selling limited number of Compaq Presario CQ60-419WM for $298. The machine is powered by AMD’s Sempron SI-42 processor running at 2.1GHz.The 15.6 inch laptop uses the Windows Vista OS. Other system specifications include 3GB of RAM, 160 GB of HDD, a DVD-RW drive and Nvidia’s GeForce 8200M integrated graphics. Wal-Mart also plans to add an Acer laptop and an HP netbook to the list.

Earlier this week the retailer Best Buy made a move to offer an Acer laptop with a 15.6 inch screen for $299. The offer had to be quickly pulled out as Best Buy ran out of stock.

So will we able to buy a mainstream laptop at a throw-away price? Well, the War of Retailers may just make it possible. Wait and Watch.
