HOW TO USE YOUR CELL PHONE AS MODEM

Mobile workers may not always be able to find a hot spot to stay connected. If you can’t connect to the internet using Wi-Fi, you can do so using your Bluetooth enabled cell phone as a modem. Bluetooth does not require direct line of sight connection. So you can keep the cell phone in your laptop carrying case and still use it as your modem. Note that if your laptop is not blue tooth enabled, you will need to purchase a USB blue tooth adapter.

How to use your cell phone as a modem

1. Switch on the cell phone and switch on the Bluetooth connection software. Make the phone discoverable.
2. Go to the My Bluetooth Places on your laptop. You should be able to locate it easily if you are using the Windows XP.
3. Select the View Devices in Range option. Upon doing this you should be able to see the icon for the cell phone. Right click on the cell phone icon and select the Discover Available Services option.
4. Right click on the Dial-Up Networking and select Connect Dial-up networking.
5. You will be asked whether you want to accept the connection request, decline or add to paired.
6. Select the desired option. You will be prompted to enter a PIN code to pair the phone and the laptop. You need to enter the PIN in the cell phone.
7. A dialogue box will appear asking for user name, password and the phone number of your ISP. Enter the details and then click on the dial button to connect to the internet.
