Gateway’s new thin and light laptop, the EC1805U, looks strikingly similar to the Acer Aspire 1410. Specs are also identical. So could this be a case of re-branding?
Gateway is owned by Acer and companies are known to re-brand products if they think that it might lead to more sales. Both Aspire 1410 and EC1805U have identical specs. They are both powered by Intel’s SU3500 processor with 2GB of DDR2 memory and a 250 GB hard drive. Other specifications include 11.6 inch displays, HDMI output and Windows Vista Home Premium.
The Gateway EC1805U will start shipping on December 9. It will go for $449. Personally, I can’t figure out the USP of this netbook because Aspire 1410 is still available for around $23 less. So why would anyone want to buy the Gateway version?
