TOSHIBA QOSMIO G40 REVIEW

Introduction
Toshiba’s Qosmio G40 is one of the first Santa Rosa based laptops from the Japanese maker. This is a complete multimedia laptop with tons of good features. It beats laptops like Dell Inspiration 1720 and HP pavilion dv9500 of the market easy. You will get features like dual TV tuners, next generation optical format, 5,1-channel audio output etc. The bad things is that its 5,5 KG so its not so good portable , but the 17-inch screen makes up for that.

Design
This laptop looks beautiful its maybe one of the best looking laptops out there. However fingerprints are hard to remove on the glossy surface so I would say it is more for the look then for the comfort. Like most vendors which intend to retail in the European market, Toshiba’s Qosmio G40 is RoHS compliant. This means it conforms to the European standard that restricts the use of hazardous substances in a portable. We, however, use the term portable very loosely. With a weight of 5.5kg and dimensions of 440 by 299.4 by 45.3mm, it may be slightly slimmer than the older Qosmio G30 but still not a machine you'd want to commute with.

You will find a 17-inch high quality screen on this laptop so you can watch your movies in good quality. There is also a cool control pad to the right on the laptop, here you can do stuff like increase volume, stop, play etc it is like a small media center.

Features
Okay so I thought I could say little bit about some of the features on the Qosmio G40. This laptop got everything a good multimedia center needs, a digital TV tuner, built in subwoofer, HD DVD drive and tons of video output sources.

The screen on this notebook is simply stunning, it is a 17-inch screen and it is 1080p-compatible which means it can display full-HD video with no problems. This laptop also comes with 2 TV tuners so you can watch TV wherever you go and you can even watch and record TV at the same time. The laptop also offer high quality sounds with the 5.1 channel experience with four Harman Kardon speakers and a built in subwoofer. This is perfect if you are far away from home and don’t have your home cinema there with you, simply use the 5.1 system on the laptop the sound is great!

The laptop also have tons of ports, FireWire, card reader, blue tooth, Wi-Fi radio, 2 MP webcam and much more to fit your needs. This is the complete multimedia laptop.

Performance
The performance of this laptop is also great but that’s what I expect it to be when it costs 5000$. You will get a Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2Ghz processor, 2GB RAM and a 400 GB hard disk. However the battery life is weak and lasts only 2 hours when you are watching a movie.

Conclusion
This is a great laptop! The design is simply stunning, the features are many and the performance is really good but I would not expect less when you have to pay 5000$ to take this notebook home. However it’s the complete entertainment system for games, HD-DVD, Digital TV and wifi-radio. If you want the best you have to pay for it.
