The Toshiba Satellite X205 is a fully equipped multimedia notebook, which employs the Santa Rosa platform, and delivers a great gaming experience.
Design
The word is Thick, with the overall design being bulky and heavy. However, the weight has been evenly distributed, which makes it a bit better than what it could have been. It uses silver and black plastic for basic design, and a flaming pattern of red and black makes it appealing. The overall design is sturdy and not even a little flex was encountered. A 17” WXGA+ screen is an absolute pleasure, and has a glossy surface and with the TruBrit technology, the color reproduction and brightness levels were good enough. Viewing angles are rather bad, and could have been better. The maximum resolution supported was 1440x900, which made the display even more crisp. Being a multimedia notebook, it had a decent array of connectivity options. VGA, HDMI, S-Video, 6 USB, ExpressCard, Ethernet, headphone/MIC sums it up.
Performance
Running on an Intel Core-2-Duo T7100, 2GB DDR2, 240GB hard drive, 8700M GT graphics card, this machine is a monster, as evident from its size. The performance was really good, and users looking forward to gaming on this one are in for a real treat. The notebook scored 4,793 PCMark 05 and 4,734 3DMark 06. The gaming performance was very impressive and the tests on various games proved that this could run the latest game at good settings, even Crysis. The battery ran for almost 3 hours on Power saver, and this backup time is quite good for a notebook with a 17” screen and a 8700M GT, both power hoggers.
Conclusion
The Toshiba Satellite X205 is a great deal considering the performance, connectivity, gaming aspect and multimedia features. And considering the price tag, it is something to watch out for.
