Looking forward solid state drives to develop into the mainstream laptop storage arrangement, Intel is setting up to launch SSD products by the end of the 3rd quarter this year which it will package as part of its forthcoming Centrino 2 platform (Montevina), with reference to sources at PC producers. Intel has christened the product line Intel High Performance SSD and will generally target enterprise, mid-range and high-end laptop markets. Preliminary shipments of Intel High Performance SSDs will approach in 2 variants – Client X25-M and Client X18-M – the previous having a physical size of 2.5-inch and presently 1.8-inch. Both will attribute 80GB capability and a SATA boundary. Intel projects to augment storage capacities up to 160GB by the end of the 4th quarter, and to 250GB and more in 2009, the sources revealed.
