THE SAMSUNG NC1O QUICK REVIEW

The Average Joe of Mini-Notebooks - The Samsung NC10

Everyone’s in on the game – major players in the PC and laptop industry such as Hewlett Packard, Asus, Dell, Acer and Lenovo have all gone the mini-notebook route and boast of at least one model of a netbook to complete their portfolio. Samsung is no different, and it jumps in on the mini-notebook bandwagon with the Samsung NC10, an industry-standard netbook with one or two impressive features to make it a cut above the rest.

Launched in October 2008, Samsung entered the mini-notebook market with the Samsung NC10, a worthy contender to the likes of the Asus Eee PC, Lenovo’s IdeaPad, and the MSI Wind. Its features are pretty standard for laptops of this size – it sports a 10-inch screen and weighs only 2.8 pounds – and they’re not anything to go crazy about. With a 160 GB hard drive, a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor N270, a 1.3 Mega Pixel webcam, and Windows XP Home as its operating system, the Samsung NC10 is an Average Joe in the world of mini-notebooks – but what it lacks in originality and edge in terms of its technical specs, it makes up for in its six-cell lithium ion battery that can last for up to six or seven hours.

And the Samsung NC10’s battery life, it seems, is just about the only thing it needs to make it big in today’s laptop market. It’s ranked in the top ten of Amazon.com’s highest selling laptops, which tells you that in this day and age, flashy gadgets don’t always take the cake from the simple and sensible.

Second only to its impressively long battery life, the Samsung NC10 also boasts a fairly impressive keyboard. And while it is not as amazing as that of the Hewlett Packard Mini-Note 2133, which probably sports the best keyboard among all the mini-notebooks available in the market, Samsung NC10’s keyboard is easy and comfortable to use – they keys haven’t been inconveniently shuffled around, and standard laptop users won’t have trouble adapting to its slightly smaller keyboard.

The Samsung NC10 will probably appeal to those who are not looking for a flashy netbook and just want simple, standard features. If you’re a no-frills kind of person and just want a laptop you can carry around with you everywhere you go, with a battery life long enough to last an extended coffee shop session or offsite business meeting, then the Samsung NC10 is for you.

A simple, straightforward, no-frills mini-notebook – the Samsung NC10 is a no-nonsense laptop, and it means business.

Price: Approx. $400
